My friend has given birth to a boy. He is a week old now but hasnt opened his eyes, he cant move his muscles or breath on his own. My friend had too much amniotic fluid and was induced 2 weeks early (scans did not show anything was wrong with the baby before birth). The doctors dont know what is causing this and are holding out no hope for the little one and want to switch off his ventilator. Has anyone ever heard or seen these symptoms before or maybe have an idea what could be causing these symptoms? My fingers are crossed!

This is a sad situation. I am sorry to hear about this. If the doctors are saying that there is not much that can be done, they are probably right. They are the best ones to answer the question of what happened. We don't have enough information to speculate on it.

What a sad situation. Unfortunately there is very little hope for this little guy, And I'm afraid if he did regain conciseness his out look for a normal life would not be good. I would guess the doctors have done all they could do and hate to give up as much as you all do. Please remember that some good could come out of this in the manner of organ donation. I haven't seen something like this, honestly, and I have worked in a hospital for 20 years. But it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. This is so sad. They need to run a brain scan on the baby to see if he has any brain function. Please relay to the mother I am so sorry for her and her baby and I will pray for them both. I care.

It's a sad situation, but odds are there is so much organ damage that the child would proably only be alive in a bed

Wow, poor thing. Why didn't they take him by C-section?? Don't know what to say but I'll send up a prayer...I would not turn it off...I'd want more answers.
