OK, here is the scientific explanation.. Eggs are female cells. In humans and in other animals eg hens, cells (or eggs) are generated in the ovaries of the female periodically (happens naturally, without the requirement of a male). Even plants have male and female parts/cells (read about carpel and anther) which HAVE TO MATE to produce flower and a part of that flower ripens into a fruit. So, a fruit is the ripened ovary containing the seeds of living entity (the plant). Egg on the other hand is just the female cell which a female produces after it reaces puberty (sexual maturity) and no male is involved in it. (Note: it is not an embryo as it is not fertilized by a male and will never grow ito a young bird) That way, an egg is more non-vegetarian than all most all fruits. But logic alone can not make one eat or not-eat an egg. So eat an egg if you will. But be sure to cook it well before you do so.

If you are a vegetarian due to religion, egg is a big no no for you as its the baby of a chicken just lik eating a dead foetus.
To me veg is grown fr the ground but egg is d product of an animal and d final product of d egg is still animal so egg does not constitute as vegetables.

It's vegetarian, but not vegan.
And to all thse who say it's like a dead baby chick or something, no it's not. Unfertilized means there was never a chick to begin with! Trust me, you would all know if you got a fertilized egg, it would be all bloody inside. Saying an egg is a chicken embryo is the same thing as saying a woman miscarries a baby every time she has a period. Eggs we eat and baby chickens are very different.

Eggs are only potential fetuses if they've been fertilized. We once had a few chickens, not a rooster in sight, and they produced eggs daily -- more than we could use.
FYI, a hen will sit on a fertilized egg as she knows it is a potential chick. If not, she'll leave it anywhere. Every day was like an Easter egg hunt at our home. ;)
The bottom line is that unfertilized eggs are vegetarian, but not vegan.

We all know eggs are not vegetables BUT they are not animals either. The one thing all vegetarians have in common is that none of them consume the flesh of animals. Some however do use dairy and eggs because they are not flesh.
Eggs are NOT non fertilized embryos. There is NO embryo if the egg was not fertilized and there will never be one in the eggs you buy at the store.

Egg isn't vegetarian. It's basically a non-fertilised chicken embryo.
If you are a true vegetarian, I suggest that you stay away from egg like meat. Albumen, or egg white, can be considered to be vegetarian, but if you want to be careful, eat neither.
Tofu is the best substitute. It has the most proteins, or, at least, the closest you can get to egg or meat.
If you don't like the taste, then try it fried. Maybe covered in breadcrumbs with some chives.... or you could always make your favourite soup and add some tofu..... it doesn't make that much difference in taste, but a big difference in nutrition. You can also buy flavoured tofu (as dessert).
Soy milk is good too.
