Due to the weather it could be related to the humidity level inside the house. I would recommend a warm mist humidifier in his room at night until the outside humidity level stays consistantly above 75%.
Another cause could be slight uvular swelling (the hangy down thing in the back of your mouth). This can be caused by exposure to something that your boy is allergic to, especially a food allergy.
Could be his sinuses. Might want to try half a dose of nasal decongestant at bedtime and some Vicks under his nose. Increase to full dose if the half dosing doesnt work after 2 nights treatment. Also start him on a regimne of saline nasal spray. Generic is the same as brand name so save some cash. Two sprays to each nostril 4 times a day with the last spray at bedtime each night.
Although at his age it is rare but it could be due to an obstruction due to foreign object placement. Most of the time it's babies who are being given peas, beans, or french fries for this one though...
Last but not least it could be due to poor septal formation. For this he would have either been born with a malshapen nasal septum (can get smushed in vaginal deliveries due to the mother's pelvic bones) or from facial injuries (a ball kicked or thrown into his face, slammed into a door by accident, etc.). Either way if it doesnt clear up with the above suggestions I would advise following up with an ENT (Ears, Nose, and Throat MD) for evaluation.
If he is overweight this could be a sign of sleep apnea. If this is a possibility then I would advise seeing the MD and looking into a "sleep clinic" evaluation. The MD can set this up for you at a local hospital.
Best of luck to you.

I only know that the snoring happens when a person is very tired. It can happen once or daily, but once my 6 year old cousin had happend the same thing so we made a operation to let him not snore agian. Ask the doctor for that operation if it exsit. Also the doctor can tell you if it must be done or not !

Sometimes my nephew snores too esp when he is tired. My best friend's sons (she got 3 sons ages 3 to 7) and they also snores but due to build-up fluid in the throat when they sleep. They are also quite big (but not yet considered obese).
Have them checked by their Pedia if your son's snoring is normal.

So does my 10 y.o. son when he's really tired. Not very loud though. I don't think there is a problem but monitor closely.

Has he been sick a lot lately, especially colds? Could be tonsil problems.
