as a vegetarian, can you eat a soup, just the liquid part, if it was stewed from meat?

Heavens, no. A beef/chicken/fish broth is not vegetarian in the least.

There're plenty of vegetarian/vegan soup stocks on the market now, though, and it's trivial to make your own.

It's not a diet that merely eschews stuff that _looks_ like meat; that wouldn't make much sense at all.

Re. "i guess it depends on how strict you are" -- no, no; that wouldn't be like admitting to eating small amounts of gelatin or stuff where an animal ingredient was used in the processing; stuff that one might reasonably not know about. I've never had a beef/chicken/fish stock, but would have to assume you'd be able to recognise it as such by taste?

I went through the same thing with my first. Frankly, I didn't worry about it. I offered him good foods and he ate what he wanted. No matter the casserole or the dish, he'd pick out the meat. It's no big deal! To give your child more protein you can offer it in several ways: beans, eggs, yogurt/dairy. Mine didn't start touching meat until he was 3 years old. Even now, he eats it only sparingly. I just followed his cues and he's never been malnourished. Peanut butter is a great way to provide protein!

Once again..NO. Vegetarians do not eat anything that came from the flesh of an animal. Meat broth is the same as meat.

I dont think most vegetarians would, because an animal still died for that.

Like with chicken stock in it?

If thats what you mean. I personally do not eat anything with chicken stock, but I'm sure some vegetarians do and still call themself one. Anything that comes from the death of an animal I will not eat, so like gelitin and chicken stock.

No..the blood and small amounts of the meat would still get into the broth .. so it would be like drinking blood..sounds gross, but that is how I would see it..

Some vegetarians I know are flexible... they don't eat chunks of meat but they aren't bothered by "peripheral" meat products. It's all a matter of personal preference.

You can. It's possible. But it would be neither vegetarian nor vegan.
