The heart pumps blood to all areas of the body, in order to deliver oxygen and nutrients to our cells so they can function. Well, the heart is a muscle and it needs oxygen and nurtrients, too. The coronary arteries basically come right off the aorta, and these arteries bring blood to the heart muscle.
When a person doesn't take care of themselves (i.e. eats a poor diet, doesn't exercise, smokes, etc.), over time the inside walls of the coronary arteries become inflammed or irritated. Stuff in the blood starts sticking to the walls of the artery, and causes a blockage to form. The blockage can get so bad that it cuts off blood flow to the heart, or the blockage can break off and get lodged in a narrower part of the artery. When the blockage breaks off, it is called a clot.
When blood flow to the heart is reduced or stopped, the part of the heart that is served by that artery is basically being starved of oxygen and nutrients. This is what we call a heart attack. Without oxygen, the heart cells can't function. If the cells are starved of oxygen for a long enough period of time, that part of the heart will die. The heart as a whole can still beat, but a small part of it will be non-functional. Hope this helps.

A heart attack is caused by the heart muscles not receiving an adequate supply of blood. When that happens the heart stops functioning as it should. If the attack is severe permanent damage can be caused to the heart muscle(s) and death can occur.

A heart attack or myocardial infarction is usually caused by the blockage of a coronary artery with an emboli or (blood clot) stopping the blood flow supplying oxygen to the heart muscle.

a heart attack is caused by eating to much fatty foods and therefore getting blockage in your veins and arteries which stop blood from getting to your heart, therefore causing a heart attack. To avoid this regularly get your blood pressure checked because high blood pressure may lead to a heart attack or even a stroke
