I've heard about cinnamon and almonds having a positive effect on blood glucose control but are there any other foods like these that can help?

Hi,
Have you ever heard of Himalayan Goji Juice? Goji has been used in China for the treatment of adult-onset diabetes for many years, and its polysaccharides have been shown to help balance blood sugar and insulin response. It also contains betaine, which can prevent fatty liver disease and vascular damage often seen in diabetics.

I don't think any one particular food will help significantly with diabetes. I also don't believing in severely limiting protein and increasing fruits, which are loaded with natural sugars. Balance is important. A good, balanced diet of the proper foods will help immensely. The biggest and easiest thing you can and should limit is carbs and sugars, but some are still necessary to keep you healthy.

When you have diabetes, you want to try to always balance your self. For example certain sweets such as candy, chocalate, cookies and other things of that nature will raise your blood sugar level too high. The best thing I can suggest is a drink called MONA Vie. My mom is a diabetic and I help her with keeping it under control. When I heard about Mona Vie, some people told me that it could help my mom. And it did just that, instead of having to take a high dose of insulin everyday she takes less and she has so much energy. The drink contains nothing but fruits. My mom drinks about 2ounces in the morning and evening and it helps her blood glucose level be balanced. You should really give this drink a try.

If you are diabetic then you should see a good nutritionist because it's unbelieveable what converts to sugar...like pasta

Another hint is not to eat fruit with your meal...1/2 hr after you eat your main meal. No fruit juices cause they are high in sugar too.
The book SUGAR BUSTERS is a great one for diabetics. There is even a A SUGAR BUSTERS SHOPPING LIST that tells you what to buy and what not to buy.

The best answer I can offer is to read the source url, which explains how to test all the foods you eat to see what effect they have on YOU and how to then adjust your menu to improve your BG's.

There are a million people out there trying to convince you that certain herbs and spices help. In my experience, if they help at all, its trivial compared to the dramatic effect excessive carbs can have on your blood glucose levels.

I have cinnamon in my morning coffee. The only way it improved my BG's was by replacing the milk which used to raise them.

If you are unmedicated, you should aim to limit your carbohydrate intake and boost your protein intake. This is the best way to have a positive effect on blood glucose levels. Exercise is big too (though of course not a food ;) )

Jinx...I was trying to beat the previous responder to the punch but I lost.

go on dlife site... you need to eat a balance of carbs, veggies , dairy... the key word is balance. you cannot eat alot of fruit and veggies (raw carrots) they are very high in sugar. i cant believe what some of these people say. see your doctor / dietitian for what the best balance is for you! you have to have carbs/protein... they maintain your blood sugar slowly, they will bring you back from a low blood sugar attack slowy and maintain the level, not shock your system with a high sugar (juice) then drop.
