Stop smoking and go to the doctor's office. Here are just some things that may be causing this:

* Bleeding gums such as with gingivitis
* Blood clot in the lung
* Bronchiectasis
* Bronchitis
* Cystic fibrosis
* Esophageal cancer
* Goodpasture's syndrome
* Irritation of the throat from violent coughing
* Nosebleed
* Laryngitis
* Lung cancer (see metastatic lung cancer)
* Pneumonia
* Pulmonary aspiration (inhaling blood into the lungs)
* Pulmonary edema
* Systemic lupus erythematosus
* Tuberculosis
* Wegener's granulomatosis

Good luck!

Obviously this does not sounds good but the best way to know for sure is go to a doctor. Getting diagnosed on Yahoo Answers does not get this treated.

It could really be anything, from your sinuses dripping ( since they do tend to bleed easily, and often you can cough that up ) to teeth and gum problems, to tonsils, to of course cancer...Check to see if you have any other symptoms going on..and definatly go to a doctors, we always think the worst..and in those rare cases that it is the worst it's best to catch it early. Do keep in mind..that not everyone who smokes developes smoking related problems...but it is always best to quit.

Yes, this is serious. I would advise u too stop smoking because your lungs will corrode and not be able to handle it.

It could or could not be related to smoking. You might have a communicable disease (see tuberculosis). Anyway, for your health and that of those around you, you need to be checked.
