Like acne, heart disease, cancer, etc, diabetes is genetic. However, it is not unavoidable. Case in point: Simoans, Hawaiians, who adhere to their ancestral diets are more healthy than most other countries-1st and 3rd world type economies. Basically, processed foods and purified sugars flood the bloodstream with an unnatural sugar, forcing the pancreas to manufacture insulin to combat it. Over time the pancreas grows and creates problems systemically. People who adhere to diets high in raw frutis and vegetables, avoid fried foods and lots of dairy (cows milk is terrible for humans) live well into their hundreds and have very few health problems in general.
The main problem is, that the health standards set by the AMA are very low compared to that of people who eat as Nature, and the Bible, intended us to. 3,000 years of diet sucess cant be wrong!!

Type 1:
Juvenile diabetes. Can occur when your body attacks the insulin producing cells. Could be due to a virus.
Type 2:
Adult-onset. Has a hereditary component-family history. Can also be brought on due to lifestyle such as being overweight and no exercise. This last factor is why more children are developing Type 2.

Are you predisposed to the diabetic gene? In other words, does your family have a history of type 1 or 2 diabetes? You don't have to get it. While genes do play a huge part, they only function by being activated. Diet & nutrition play a critical role in determining which genes, good or bad, get expressed.
In other words, by eating a whole foods, plant based diet (meaning MOSTLY & predominantly vegetarian) you can keep from having diabetes. Want proof?

Type I diabetes - also called Juvenile Diabetes - no one really knows concretely what causes it. Many endocrinologists I know seem to think that some sort of virus causes it.
Type II diabetes - also called Adult Onset diabetes - can be caused by being overweight, or having a family history of this type of diabetes.
Contrary to the old wives' tales that seem to be spread here, eating too many cookies or too much candy or cake DOES NOT cause diabetes, and you CAN NOT "catch" it from someone else.

Most of the time it comes from parents who had this sickness. I mean it has been running in the blood stream from generation to generation.
Sometimes it is acquired by eating too much sweets, carbohydrates and starches.
Some pregnant women get this, it is gestational diabetes,I think but when the baby is born it's gone.
