Nope. Had a Mitral valve repair in February last year (ring sewed in and valve trimmed) and was off blood thinners in 60 days. Just depends on the other factors.

if they implant a mechanical valve, you need Warfarin forever. If they use a bovine valve, you are only on them for a couple of months. The downside is that the bovine valve will only last for 8-10 years then it will need replacement.

Its really the doctors call but I would say no not forever. Warfarin does have side effects, like depression, diarerria, but your alive.

if you have a mechanical valve then yes you will be on it for life
