Yes. Stress, menstruation, and diet (such as foods high in arginine, like chocolate, peanuts and walnuts) are main triggers for herpes outbreaks.
Everyone is different, but certain foods and activities do trigger outbreaks for some individuals.
Eating nuts has absolutely no affect on me, but believe it or not, I can NOT go into a jacuzzi. If I do I will have an outbreak literally the very next day. Other people have no problems with outbreaks and jacuzzis, but not me!
People living with genital herpes tend to learn what triggers outbreaks for them and learn to avoid certain foods or activities that cause them to have outbreaks.

A variety of events may trigger latent infection to become active, including mechanical irritation, stress, menstruation, and fatigue.(MedlinePlus)
The amino acid lysine has demonstrated the ability to reduce the duration of infection through inhibiting the replication of the HSV. When foods high in lysine (such as cheese) are consumed in preference to foods high in arginine,HSV replication may be inhibited; conversely, consuming foods high in arginine (such as nuts or peanuts) may interfere with the therapeutic use of lysine. However, according to the American Social Health Association: "While some studies have suggested that lysine supplements can reduce the frequency of recurrences or healing time, other trials have been unable to replicate those results. Therefore, there is not sufficient information to discern how effective it may be, in addition to what the effective dosages or frequency of L-lysine may be."(Wikipedia)

Yes, they are loaded with L-Arginine which triggers the virus and causes breakouts. chocolate is also loaded with Arginine. It's better to eat foods that have lots of L-Lysine which fights the virus. Foods that contain this are corn, beans, milk , soybeans, spinach, And meat.
