Irrigate your sinuses with saline nasal spray. I have heard that the product "Ocean" works well, though I have never tried it.

Also, if you have medical insurance, there are two products that work well for me: Nasorel and Flonase.

How to Clear a Sinus Infection

Sinus infections form behind sinus blockages. While doctors will prescribe antibiotics, this will only cure the infection, not the underlying cause, which is the blockage. To unblock your sinuses you will need to flush them out. You can make a Ph neutral sinus flush in your kitchen. The salt in this solution will also kill germs.

First, you will need to purchase a nasal aspirator (a rubber bulb often used to clear out babies' noses). These are available at most pharmacies. Once you have your nasal aspirator, you are ready to make the sinus flush.

Steps
Place 1/4 tsp of salt and 1/4 tsp of baking soda in the bottom of a mug.

Add 1 - 2" of boiling water.

Stir until the salt and baking soda have dissolved.

Add cold water to fill the mug.

Check that the solution is no more than lukewarm.

Squeeze the nasal aspirator, put the tip in the solution, and let go to fill it up.

Lean your head backwards and slightly to the side that has the blockage.

Squeeze the solution into your nose.

Tilt your head to allow the solution to drain into your sinus. If your sinus is not completely blocked, you should feel the solution moving all the way to the base of your ear canal.
Tilt your head forward to drain the solution.

Tips
Use this solution several times a day until your sinus blockage has cleared.

Do not blow your nose in the standard way (by blocking one nostril and blowing) after using the solution, as this will force solution and mucus into your ear canals, which may cause an ear infection.

Do not use the solution immediately before going to bed, as your sinuses will drain into your ear canals, which may cause an ear infection.

Use a ceramic or glass mug to make and store the solution, not a plastic container, as the plastic may leach into the solution.

A mug of solution will last for several flushes. Cover the mug to keep the solution clean. There is no need to refrigerate it.
If you are feeling pain in your ear canals (behind your lower jaw), you may already have an ear infection. See your doctor, as you may need antibiotics to clear this infection. You will still need to clear the blockage, or the the ear infection will recur.

According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), having sinus symptoms calls for procedures that are employed to deal with the 'invasion of negative influences'. This requires one to "sweat all the way to the road of fast recovery".

The primary objectives for treatment of sinusitis are reduction of swelling, eradication of infection, draining of the sinuses, and ensuring that the sinuses remain open.

Home remedies that open and hydrate sinuses may, indeed, be the only treatment necessary for mild sinusitis that is not accompanied by signs of acute infection.

Drinking plenty of fluids and taking rest when needed is still the best bit of advice to ease the discomforts of common cold. Water is the best fluid and helps lubricate the mucous membranes.

Hot soups do indeed help congestion. The hot steam from the soup may be its chief advantage. In fact, any hot beverage may have similar soothing effects from steam. Ginger tea, fruit juice, and hot tea with honey and lemon may all be helpful.

Spicy foods that contain hot peppers or horseradish may help clear sinuses.

Inhaling steam two to four times a day is also very helpful, costs nothing, and requires no expensive equipment. A mentholated or other aromatic preparation may be added to the water. Long, steamy showers, vaporizers, and facial saunas are good alternatives.
Many people take medications to reduce mild pain and fever. Adults most often choose aspirin, ibuprofen, or acetaminophen.

A nasal wash can be helpful for removing mucous from the nose. A saline solution can be purchased at a drug store or made at home. Decongestants administered in nasal spray form may be used for short-term treatment. They thicken secretions in the nasal passages however, and may reduce the ability to clear out bacteria. Expectorants, which are drugs that cause mucous to be coughed up from the lungs and may help promote draining and reduce tissue swelling, are sometimes recommended for treatment of sinusitis. Expectorants generally contain ingredients that thin mucous secretions called mucolytics. The most common mucolytic used is guaifenesin, which may cause drowsiness or nausea.
