Went to ER and was admitted. After 4 days of test ordered by his regular MD they only found that he had an infection and took antibiotic. His heart rate is still alittle eratic. He thinks he has reflux and needs Nexium. With all the test they ran if he had that wouldn't that have showed up?He had the test for it. He says he still doesn't feel quite right. We think he needs a second opinion from a heart Dr. Something just isn't right with this picture. What do you think?

If he had already gone to the hospital through the emergency ward and admitted , then assessed with tests for 4 days, the odds are that he really might have just had an infection. You did not mention of what?
It doesnt hurt to seek more help if he is not feeling well and he insists. Go ahead, ask another doctor.

If he had a heart attack, yes...it would have shown in his blood work. If he has an infection he needs to give the antibiotic a chance to work. It could take a couple of weeks before he feels a lot better. If he still thinks it's reflux, then he needs to talk to the doctor. Only if they tested for reflux (upper GI) would they have found it in the hospital.

If he's unsure, tell him to make an appointment with a cardiologist. It never hurts to get a second opinion-especially from a specialist. Never assume the doctor's are infallible. My mother's doctor diagnosed her "stomach problems" as a small hernia, blah blah. She dies of a sudden, massive heart attack a few weeks later. I wish she had seen a cardiologist.
Good luck.

Did they take any heart enzyme tests? If not, and you truly believe it was a heart attack, it can be easily diagnosed, with taking the levels of enzymes.

A second opinion is a good idea and I don't know of any m.d. who would frown upon a second opinion.

Did he call the ER and ask if they checked for that? He should do that. And then you'd know.
