I am a 31 year old male. In excellent shape, 170 lbs 5'11 - I have unexplained hypertention. I have been on 40mgs of accupril for most of 9 years. I recently went to a cardiologist for an annual check up and received a echo and stress test, check for LVH and other cardiac issues. All results were normal. My blood pressure usually reads 125/80 w/ medication but recently I have been seeing lower diastolic pressures 125/65. My doctor added a diuretic to my treatment last year and I have stoped weight lifting which my cardiologist suggested might not be good for a hypertensive. Since then I have been running on average 8- 10 miles a week. Like i said my last cardio echo was perfect,.....could all this cardio and running be lowering my diastolic? If not what could it be if my echo's are clean ?

diuretics lower blood pressure.

if all tests checked out fine, I wouldn't worry too much, unless of course it continues to decline to dangerous lows.

65 diastolic is not bad..

Don't base your b/p baseline on a single reading. check it lying, sitting, and standing while pausing 1 min. between readings.
A diastolic of 65 in light of a normal echo is fine(normal)
The diastolic presssure reflects the pressure in the arteries( peripheral) at the end of the ventricles work and the relative elasticity/resistance in the smaller and medium sized vessels.
Physical conditioning quite often, improves vascular tone and decreases the work of the heart at rest.
Most likely, the addition of a diuretic has somewhat reduced the volumes (after load) of Your vascular system , hence Your diastolic pressure.
How's Your HDL ???? A big issue.
You should be aware that, with strenuous activity and fluid lose, accupril in addition to a diuretic, could be a problem if your kidneys do not have sufficient fluid remaining, to work with.
I see this as the largest issue re: your treatment and life style.
Are You on some form of sodium (salt) restriction.?
This also becomes an issue when fluid and salt loss is significant.

Whoah...take a deep breath. Stop taking your blood pressure unless your doctor told you to do so. Your blood pressure sounds completely normal, but you sound very anxious. Being overweight may make you more likely to have high blood pressure, but this is not necessarily the case. If you are very worried, make an appointment with your doctor, but in general, blood pressure is not an "absolute." In some people a BP of 120/80 is normal, and in others a BP of 94/60 may be normal. If you are feeling fine otherwise (except for your significant anxiety), then your bp is likely just fine at 124/59. By the way, pulmonary embolism is not subtle...you would have severe chest pain and trouble breathing...there is no reason to believe that you have liver disease based on only your blood pressure...take a deep breath, relax, go see your doctor with a regular appointment.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

your diastolic blood pressure is fine. According to the new guidelines, a bp of 120/80 is actually prehypertension. They want to see your diastolic less than 80 and your systolic less than 120. It sounds like your blood pressure is being kept under good control with your meds and exercise routine. Keep it up.

125/65 isn't bad the diastolic number 80 is not perfect for everyone some people have a normal of 70. Did you ask your Dr. about it? I would call him and tell him your concerns but like I said 125/65 is not bad.

My last 2 readings was 120/58 and 110/60.I thought it was low but the doctor said that it is fine so I dont think you being at 125/68 is really too low.
