if you are talking about and STI it depends on the infection itself there are those you take care of with medication and there are those you are stuck with for the rest of your life. In those cases it can test neg. if it is dormant, in other words if you are not having an outbreak. If you are talking drugs. then it depends on the drug and method of testing. there are some test for drugs which can be done by testing the hair and these can test positive for months after use I believe.
