Tightness in chest, chest pain and shortness of breath equals have someone take you to the MD RIGHT NOW or CALL 911. There are no other acceptable alternatives. Attempting to explain or diagnose these complaints in any other way could be the last thing you do. Why would I say this? 50, 000 911 runs is why.

Shortness of breath accompanied by chest pain? 25 or 45 I'd see a dr...or ER! I, too have been having shortness of breath with tightening in my chest, palpitations. I went to the dr's yesterday and now I'm going for tests to determine the problem. I don't recall being exposed to anything that would trigger it, like you, but I'd get treatment if I were you. Go to the ER if you need to. At the very least they'll be able to quiet the symptoms. Even if it is just a benign reaction it's much better to be safe then sorry. Good luck!

You should go see a doctor and tell them exactly what happened. It could be an allergic reaction, or you could have anxieties that you weren't aware of and they're just coming out now (chest pains are a sign of anxiety). Either way, you'll feel better knowing that you're in the hands of a professional. They might want to take some blood and run some tests, or they might know right away after hearing your story.

Eiether way, just knowing is half the battle :)

New paint, floor coverings, plastics and carpet give off fumes called VOC's (volatile organic compounds) These are toxic fumes that can cause hallucinations , nerve damage and respiratory illness in humans. It is similar to "huffing paint thinner." I would air the house out with every window open for a day to let the fumes out.

I would always check with a doctor and get an EKG and maybe some cardiac markers. Not to scare you, but people in there 20's can have heart defects or disease. I have taken care of patients in there early 20's with heart failure, needing heart transplants, usually due to the strain of pregnancy.

I would bet it was a chemical irritation due to paint and paint thinner.

I would go see a doctor because an allergic reaction to latex can cause severe trouble breathing, lip swelling, and hives. Emergency medical treatment may be required.

if you're really worried, go see a doctor. Chances are that the fumes are making their way out of your body. Also, the fact that you're nervous about it could be psychosomatically causing more symptoms.
