To be honest. I'm annoyed at some of these answers. I'm a teenager (17 in fact) I lost my virginity at 16. I have had one sexual partner. The reason I caught my STD? Lack of knowledge.
So don't go blaming all of us. Yes, some teenagers act like sluts. But it just takes one partner to catch something. Remeber that? Have you ever had unprotected sex? Probably.
Most STDs don't have symptoms. And while having sex, I doubt people are thinking "Hmm, I wonder if this guy/ girl has chlamydia" You don't. Well, at least I, and I know of quite of people who don't.
I think there needs to be more education in schools. It shouldn't be all wear a condom and be safe. We didn't even told that we should get tested or anything. We just got told that all STDs are bad and can leave you infertile. Which actually makes the stigma of having an STD worse.
We're not all out there sh*gging anything that moves. And teenagers lie about how many people they have slept with, in most cases anyway.

There are loads of answers to this one. I mean been there and done it myself (underage sex) I do believe its the drugs and achol that brings more problem to the situation. Also what is there for teenagers to do! People say go the the cinema, go ice skating but do they realise you need money for that? Overall experimenting and trying to find yourself plays a big part in it. But this is coming from one persons experiences!

its not just in the uk. its everywhere. the same reason why there are over 1.5 million abortions done in the us every year. noone is coming to the conclusion that kids are having sex. in school all they really get out of sex ed is dont do it. well they are going to and dont know anything about it. I asked my sexually active 15 year old brother in law if he was ever taught about sex. he was embarassed, but I explained it all to him. he was already having sex and didnt know anything about what he was doing. he heard of stds but you only get them if she has them yeah but if your not the only person shes sleeping with shes not the only person your sleeping with and on and on than what makes you think you cant get an std? everyone in a sense is sleeping with everyone. I explained to him teh signs so if he ever has any he can go right away. i told him once you start having sex you need to get checked at least once a year and start getting tetsed for hiv. i asked him about pregnancy. HE said she can get pregnant. i asked him if he knew what would happen if soemone got pregnant. he said whatever she wants cuz i dont have no choice. he didnt know about child support and how if u dont pay u get locked up. how it effects your credit and taxes if you dont pay. if your 15 what job are u getting? if she gets on welfare he has to pay it back. he didnt know anything and wa shaving sex. this is why. we dont educate. we turn our heads we tsay quite we make excuses, beat around the bushes. we need to understand they atre having sex nad we need to stop saying dont and start educating. there would be less stds abotions and single parents. check out the questions in stds. so many sexually active uneducated people of all ages. You should be thinking could this person have an std when you are sleeping with them unprotected. There` are long term effcts and right h=when you begin to have sex you need to know the 4-11.

Could it have anything to do with the fact that some of them want to shag anything with a pulse and are to stupid to use protection?
I`m sorry to hear you had this problem Sparkle but if you read my answer I said "some" and as far as you getting an STD is concerned if you considered yourself mature enough to have sex that young then surely a little reading about what might happen as far as STDs etc beforehand might have helped you avoid this situation.

Because they have multiple partners and don't always use condoms. When you are young typically you think nothing can harm you and currently both sex and drugs are more freely available than ever.
The expression is ' You can't put an old head on young shoulders!'

Lack of respect and sexual ignorance, plus the fact every young person now wants to be older than he or she really are. Girls are wearing makeup now from about the age of eight. Old before their time

Because they are having sex younger and younger and they have either wrong information or no information on anything to do with sex. It's so sad. I see questions on here all day and night with young teens asking the most basic sex questions--they have no clue. They are unaware of protection, STDs, pregnancy, etc.

Because they think it's big to sleep around and have lots of sexual partners without using condoms.
