I don't think the "medical community" is confused. I think the general public is confused. I am amazed at some of the questions people ask on here about herpes. It makes me wonder if they EVER got any kind of sex ed when they were growing up. It's scary how uneducated the public is about herpes and all the other STDs for that matter.

Because the Stigma runs deep.
It is wide spread amongt the medical community.
Many doctors often give different advice to different patients.
Depending on the doctor you see, a diagnosis of HSV can either be ok, or traumatic, depending on what they tell the person.
I guess a lot of them just read the basics and don't have time to look into all of it.
My question to them would be, if HSV was so important to stop, then why isn't HSV part of a regular screening test.
It's not about HSV.
It's all about where you've got your HSV that matters.
And anyone who knows what area 'm referring to, knows exactly what I mean.
It's stigmatised even in medicine.
I should shut up now.

Thats a good question. Ive wondered the same thing but I doubt either of us will see a reasonable answer. I think its a lack of over all knowledge of family herpesviridae in general that leads to the misinformation. Just because a nurse has a 2 year nursing degree, doesnt make her an expert in virology or an epidemiologist for that matter.
