Hi I've got a genetic condition called neurofibromatosis. This causes benign tumours to grow on nerve endings causing a lot of pain. I had to fight for a year for DLA eventuallyI won my claim and they had to give me back pay of almost £4000 so don't give up. Also 3 out of my 4 children were awarded it also for various degrees of disability so it is well worth trying. Dla was designed for someone who needs more care, hospital visits etc than an average person.

it is very hard. my advice to you would be to get help from someone who has already been awarded DLA. when you answer the questions, make sure you answer them how you are when you are at your worst. ie on a good day i can lift a half filled kettle, on a bad day i cant even lift a cup. i have more bad than good, but they take the good and completely disregard the bad.

Through experience it is not what condtion you have but the effect it has on you. Apply, if you do get knocked back you can ask them to look at it again or appeal. My advice is find your local welfare office they help fill in the forms for you, thats what my renal nurses keep telling me. Good luck and don't give up.

Not really, you just need to apply. There are various different scales depending on your circumstances so you can get varying levels of support.

If you have a support worker who assists you they should be able to do all the paperwork for you. If not have a trip to your local citizens advice bureau.

It can be hard, but keep going, i took mine to a tribunal, after almost 12mths of trying and finally got to sit in front of a panel face to face, this panel had a doctor, and within minutes was awarded d.l.a.at the top level. good luck. ps it may be best if you went to see your local welfare rights officer, they helped me to fight my case.
