It depends on what you are wearing for the dinner and how messy you are when you cook. If you get stuff everywhere and are dressed up then I would suggest wearing and apron so that your clothes are still nice. If you are a neat cook then you dont need one.
I would make sure you clean the kitchen up as you cook so that you and your wife dont have to worry about a mess after the dinner is over or the next morning. This way you can fully enjoy your evening together.
Good Luck and I know your wife will love you cooking for her.

The alternative to not wearing an apron is???? If you are planning on cooking that dinner in the nude, then you definitely need to wear an apron if you have any hope of salvaging your manhood for later! :) They actually have all sorts of aprons for men that either cover only the waist down or have bibbs. If you are simply wanting to make a nice meal and don't have a preference, then I'd opt for the bibbed kind to protect your clothes. If you are wanting to make a "I am a sexy, romantic, husband" statement, then I'd opt to cover my lower extremities. Either way, enjoy!

If you're going to do it naked or in a nice suit, then yes, wear an apron. And do the tie around the back and fasten in front like chefs do. If you really want to be chef-ly, then wipe your hands on the apron. :)

I cook in boxers and a t-shirt.
I do have a chef's apron that says "My goodness! Where's the Guinness?" but I don't want to muck it up.

I would recommend it! But, if you get a little messy, I'm sure your wife won't mind because she'll be so flattered that you've made her a great meal.
PS: Don't forget dessert!
Have fun.
