i was born with a heart condition called Tetralogy of the Fallot and i also have developed a problem with that called Pulmonary Stenosis. Me and my husband really want to have a baby in the near future but i am unsure if it will be safe or not, i have heard mixed answers. And I might have to go have another open heart (third) in the next year so now im really not sure. I am going to talk to my cardiologist about it on friday but I wanted peoples thoughts or advice who have been through high risk etc pregnancies, what do I ask the Dr. specifically and do I need to see a specialist besides my cardiologist? If it is a slight risk is it worth it. People have mentioned adoption but for since I can remember I have wanted nothing more than to carry my own baby and experiance everything that goes with it, and I want to give my husband a child. I really want to think about a baby soon I just want some advice. Thanks!

The cardiologist should be able to advise you and/or refer you to someone who can evaluate the safety of proceding forward with pregnancy.

You may also want to consider consulting a geneticist as this birth defect can run in families.

Good luck.

I adopted a girl from China in 2004.

My wife and I were "pregnant" with her for two years. That's how long it took us. A mere eight weeks before we left for China we finally got a picture of our daughter. I call it our sonogram. Three days into a fourteen day stay, our daughter was placed in my wife's arms. It was a very emotional rollercoaster. It was our version of giving birth.

Just another way of thinking about it. Adopting does not mean anything less than what biological parents go through.
