A lot of pharmacists now do free tests for anyone who asks for one - it just involves a little finger prick blood test or if you're a total wimp you might be able to get a urine sample tested - the finger prick test isn't really anything to worry about at all (many of us with type 1 diabetes need take them about 10 times a day so they are not that bad!) and you get your result within 30 seconds at the most! If you cant find a pharmacy near by that does it then speak to your gp - they should be more than happy to test you. There are an estimated million people in the uk who have type 2 diabetes and don't know about it - you are definitely best to get checked as the sooner you are diagnosed if you do have it the less likely you are to get serious complications. Good luck - hope you don't have it xx
ps the longer tests are for people who are suspected of having type 2 diabetes (type 1s should never be put through that or we'd be seriously ill!) following their first finger prick blood test - nothing for you to worry about at this stage x

The test to see if you have diabetes is called Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT). It takes about 2-5 hours. You will have to be fasting for at least 8 hours prior to the start of the test. You will go to the doctor's office early in the morning. A fasting glucose blood test will be drawn. You will then drink a glucose drink called Glucola (nasty stuff, orange is the best-tasting). At regular intervals after you have consumed the glucola, blood will be drawn (how many times depends on the length of the test).
The determination that you have diabetes will depends on what those blood sugar levels are.
Take a book with you. This test must be done in a controlled enviroment. The Glucola may make you sick...nausea is the most common side effect. The idea is to flood your system with glucose and see how your body reacts to it.
When I did mine some years ago, my fasting sugar was 191. My sugar was over 600 within 45 minutes of drinking the Glucola. My doctor stopped the test and I was immediately admitted to the hospital. There was no doubt I had diabetes.

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.
Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

My GP initially tested a morning urine sample which was found to be "dry".
Next taken to hospital where finger prick gave a high reading which doctors said can only mean diabetes.
These days you can go to Lloyds pharmacy and they will give you a finger prick.
You bg levels should be between 4/5 if you haven't eaten for a while up to about 8 after a meal.

I was disgnosed by a simple blood test at my doctors surgery...However there is some doubt over that method and a fasting one followed by a glucose drink and more blood tests is the correct way - from the information I have got to test truly.

Initially, your doctor will rule out diabetes by subjecting you to FBS or fasting blood sugar test. Yes, it will be done by getting blood samples out of you. Then, if your blood sugar is found out to be high, you might be subjected to more test such as the Glucose test.

There is a urine and a blood test. The urine test is easier as all you do is check on a colour chart, green is low, yellow is fairly high and orange is extremely high.
The blood test consists of a drop of blood being analysed on a machine..quick and painless.

Go to your practice nurse, she will arrange a fasted blood test, mostly accurate tests to establish a diagnosis are done with venous blood, rather than finger prick capillary blood.
