I was at my favorite neighborhood restaurant today here in Dallas and was excited when I received the menu from the server, as it was brand new. However, when I opened it, I was horrified to find that my favorite dish, the chicken fried steak with gravy, had been taken off the menu. And there was a new section called "Vegetarian Favorites," taking up a large portion of the menu. I practically hit the roof and asked the manager about this, he confirmed my suspicion that there was not enough room to keep my dish on the menu, but lied by denying it was due to the new vegetarian section. After getting really angry and the fact that they were begging me to keep my voice down, they made it for me anyway. However, the fact that it wasn't on the menu left a bad taste in my mouth...Needless to say, I did not leave a tip.
So a question, why do vegetarians have the right to think that their psuedo-noble cause should affect the way everyone else eats. Why can't they mind thier own business?

Okay, I have so much to say to this.
1. If the manager told you that your beloved chicken fried steak with gravy had not been taken off the menu because of the vegetarian section, how do you know he was lying? Were you the one making that decision? Of course you weren't. Come on, really now.
2. You didn't leave a tip? They made you an item that wasn't on the menu because you were too much of a spoiled brat to deal with the fact that there was a change in the menu, and a particular item was taken off of it, and you refused to leave a tip? How cruel can you get?
3. "Lifestyle"? Why is lifestyle in quotes? What's wrong with vegetarianism? How is that any less of a lifestyle than yours?
4. Vegetarians have every right to have items on a menu that they enjoy. Just as you have a right to eat what you enjoy at a restaurant, vegetarians can do the same. A growing percentage of the American population is vegetarian, so you're just going to have to deal with it.
5. Psuedo-noble cause? Just because vegetarians don't think its humane to eat something that has been alive, that was killed just so you could have a meal, doesn't make them bad people. Insulting them and getting so upset and acting so childish, like you are, makes you a bad person, but that's a completely different topic in itself.
So, basically, to conclude my diatribe, why don't *you* mind *your* own business?

It sounds to me as though the chicken dish was taken off because it wasn't selling and was replaced with some dishes that would sell well. After all, a restaurant is a business and is there to make money. They're not going to keep serving a loss-maker, are they?
It was the restaurant management who made the decision to change the menu, not vegetarians.
I agree with the other contributors - how could you be so arrogant as to demand a specially prepared dish and not leave a tip? Despicable behaviour!

You sound like a complete brat. Is it not good enough for you that you got your own way by throwing a tantrum like a two year old? You have to attack all the veggies out there as well. Vegetarians won't have held the restaurant manager at knife point, they'll just be responding to increasing demand. I suggest you grow up and think about someone other than yourself. Or maybe just try some different food...

Well, any business has to work on supply and demand to survive.
It's not like every vegetarian in the world turned up at your favourite restuarant and begged for a better menu!!
You are generalising here, not all vegetarians will try to shove their 'lifestyle' down your throat!!

You don’t need to exercise for hours on end. Short, sharp sets of exercise will produce better results in case you work hard. Get a passing up rope, skip for two a few minutes, do push ups for 1 minute, skip for two minutes, rest for just one minute. Then change the push nearly something else like sit ups and also do the set again. Repeat it five times and it’s a simple, effective workout that will recover results than a long manage or swim.

Chicken fried anything is full of fat and is absolutely no good for you, even if it was a slab of chicken fried Aubergine. You should have been grateful that you were reprieved for another day from your almost certain heart attack. I have a feeling that is why they went ahead and made it for you anyway.
Have to say was a real jerky thing not to leave a tip after they went through the trouble.

Actually, a restaurant is a business. This means that they respond to customer demand. They wouldn't change their menu unless they thought they would sell more of whatever they added than they would of what they removed.
I would love to think that restaurants would change their menus out of sheer compassion, but it just isn't usually the case.

I fail to equate how the owner/manager of the restaurant having decided to change the menu to suit market forces was an act of Vegetarian Fascists.
I really do understand why you were incensed. People return to an eatery not only for the ambiance but expecting to be able to eat a dish that gives them pleasure.
I am sure that after your monumental blow up, they will rethink their policy; if only to quieten the seemingly fascist behaviour of meat eaters!

As a vegan I don't ask anyone to change their diet and I only talk about it when people ask or when I'm ordering food, as do many other vegans. Your restaurant is only offering what it assumes the majority of its customer base wants. Times are changing and many people now know that a plant based diet is much healthier, especially when compared to chicken fried steak.

You bullied the restaurant into making you something off the menu and you didn't tip? That wasn't nice.
If the restaurant doesn't make money on the vegetarian menu, they will change it to something that does make money. That is business!
