I don't bake much but I have been told it's as good for baking as dairy margarine.

You should be able to use soya margarine as a substitute for butter or dairy margarine in any baking recipe.

The most important thing for Welsh cakes it to use a good solid frying pan, or preferably a griddle.

By the way, if you're concerned about using soya margarine in place of the butter/dairy margarine, what are you going to use to replace the egg?

Yes you can ..I use soy based margarine's for all my baking ... and any time a recipe calls for butter...sometimes though I add other ingredients to add a little more flavor ..like vanilla extract ...lemon extract ..etc....I have great success....one suggestion in things that require milk..when you use soy milk cut the quantity by 1/4 to 1/3 ..experiment with this..

you don't need to use soya margarine as a vegetarian, but you do if a vegan, my wife cooks very successfully with soya based margarine as I am lactose intolerant
