Water is really not a nutrient. But it is necessary to have water in your body for all the chemical reations taking place. Your body needs water to make saliva in your mouth to make natural insulin to handle the sugar and starch you eat to carry body waste out. Drinking water is better than drinking sodas coffee tea or other types of drinks cause nature designed your body to work best with water.

Water makes up the last class of nutrients, though the fact that it is considered a nutrient is surprising to many people. Water, however, has many necessary functions in the human body. Some of its actions include its use as a solvent (a substance that other substances dissolve in), as a lubricant, as a conduction system for transportation of vital nutrients and unnecessary waste, and as a mode of temperature regulation.
There are many available sources of water other than tap water and bottled water. Some foods have a high water content, including many fruits and vegetables. In addition, the body can make small amounts of water from various metabolic prcesses that result in molecules of water as a by-product. This, however, is by no means sufficient for the body's needs of water. It is generally recommended that people drink eight cups (or nearly 2 liters) of water a day to maintain an adequate supply

TRICK QUESTION?
I do not know if water woudl be considered a "nutrient" in of itself. Water may have STUFF added into it that makes it "nutrient rich".
Water it more or less the basis of the HUMAN's existence on a level. Without water we would not be as we are.
Today we are in danger of MESSING things up if we are not careful. What are we putting down our drains? and what is in teh water that we drink? MOST PEOPLE in today's world do NOT have PURE water(from 3rd to 1st world countries) We here in america often do not question stuff like "minerals" or other bio-matter which may be in our "water supply" which in reality in some cases could lead on to make us SICK.
So, again water itself I do not think is a nutrient ... PERHAPs we could think of it as helping the body "do something" with nutrients.

Water allows other substances in your body to dissolve and be transported and dispersed throughout the body. Without water, it would be impossible to break down food, transport Oxygen and nutrients from cell to cell, etc.
It also helps you keep a constant body temperature because it has a high heat capacity (You can put a lot of energy into it, but the temperature won't change much)

It's necessary in much the same way food is necessary. Our bodies need it to function properly, and can't make it on their own. We loose water doing all sorts of things. Sweating, using the bathroom... Everyday living. It's necessary to replace lost water by drinking it, or we'll dehydrate, which can cause death.

It's nessecary to clean your blood. When your body precesses food, it creates energy, but also makes poisonous chemicals that flow into your blood. Your body takes care of this by haveing your blood filtered through your kidneys, where the poisonous chemicals are filtered out and mixed with water, thengotten rid of in your urine.

Water is not as essential as bottled water companies would have you believe. Our current obsession with water is doing a lot of damage to our kidneys.
Add to that, most people drink all that water then don't replace their water soluable vitamins such as all your B's or potassium.
What does that mean? Neurological disorders and heart attacks. It's not the fat that's killing people, it's the water.

It's not a nutrient, but you can't do without it. You are 89 percent water.

I hope this question isn't serious. One of the first things taught in school is about the human body. Over two thirds of it is composed of water. This makes it NECESSARY to survive.
