They are so difficult to work with.

I've never found a way to "Peel" them, I just cut them into chunks and then cut the skin off. It just seems easier and safer that way.

By the way- they are good raw, but even better cooked! (In case you haven't tried them that way, and they are especially good in veggie soup)

Peeling a rutabaga can be a challenge. They are hard and dense. You will need a sharp knife. They cannot be peeled like potatoes, and what you'll be cutting off is about a quarter inch of the outside surface. Just start in one spot and keep at it until all you can see is the golden flesh of the rutabaga. To cut it in chunks, first cut it in half with your largest, heaviest knife, and then work from there.

Easiest to cut into large pieces & then use a sharp peeler or pairing knife (works best). It's more like slicing off the outer layer rather than peeling.

Just be careful!

Like a potato........with a good sharp knife.
Or..........pierce them with a knife or fork and microwave.
It takes awhile depending on size.Try 5 mins. and check for doneness.
Skin will peel off easily.

DON'T FORGET TO PIERCE THEM FIRST IN SEVERAL SPOTS.
