I was at my favorite neighborhood restaurant today and was excited when I received the menu from the server, as it was brand new. However, when I opened it, I was horrified to find that my favorite dish, the chicken fried steak with gravy, had been taken off the menu. And there was a new section called "Vegetarian Favorites," taking up a large portion of the menu. I practically hit the room and asked the manager about this, he confirmed my suspicion that there was not enough room to keep my dish on the menu, but lied by denying it was due to the new vegetarian section. Even though they were able to make it for me anyway, the fact that it wasn't on the menu left a bad taste in my mouth...
So a question, why do vegetarians have the right to think that their psuedo-noble cause should affect the way everyone else eats. Why can't they mind thier own business?

Well, they weren't happy to make it for me, I had to put up a big fight and they kept asking me to keep my voice down. Needless to say, I did not leave a tip.

soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo whatcha gonna do about it?? you should really obsess over it for like EVER. Vegetarian facism is a serious issue that could, in fact, be the downfall of our society. They are so greedy because they just cannot deal with the fact that all of these animals are being slaughtered and treated horribly for the sake of our American diet of chicken fried steak. They are soooooooo un American. And, how dare them go to restaurants? If they want to eat. They should eat in their closets so they can completely mind their own business.
Ok, I am too tired for more sarcasm. My point is, is that I dislike you, and you are an idiot. LOL. But for real, u r.

I'm not saying that this is everywhere, and I'm lucky enough to live in a pretty open minded place (NY) but you know how annoying it is when I want to go out and get a nice meal and the only "vegetarian" food they have on the menu is soup and salad? Obviously SOME (you my dear are not) people are coming around and actually realizing that vegetarians would like a nice meal when they go out as well.
"Why do vegetarians have the right to think that their psuedo-noble cause should affect the way everyone else eats" So it's fair that we're not given a choice of food, but you can sit there gobbling up your lovely (catch the sarcasm?) chicken fried steak with gravy, while we have nothing?
You ask "why can't they mind their own business?" well I could be asking you that same question. Obviously there was enough people suggesting that this restaruant start putting vegetarian meals on the menu.

I agree with you to a point: vegetarians can sometimes be a bit over the top. But you making a big scene in the restaurant was over the top, too. You did have other choices. It would not have killed you to choose something else while avoiding the new section of the menu. And of course, you don't have to go back to that restaurant - and they'd probably be happy if you didn't. I would have left a tip - the waiter/waitress depends on tips for a significant percent of his/her income. The restaurant does not profit from your tips; in every state I've visited (about half the 50), it's actually illegal for the restaurant to take a cut of the tip. I suspect that's true in all 50. At any rate, it was simply cruel not to leave a tip. You made your point when you raised a stink with the manager and that should have been enough.
So: next time, try a different restaurant - or learn to make that dish yourself. I did, and when I have family and/or friends over for a meal, I'll often serve that. Hey, a guy oughta know how to cook anyway! Doing so does not make me any less of a tough old Mick and bad-a55 combat veteran!

There are far fewer options for vegetarians than there are for meat-eating individuals. This isn't wrong at all, hon... You are just blowing it out of proportion. Restaurants change menus - that is life, you have to deal with it. They're trying to work on THEIR business plan, not just cater to you. Their business revolves around many people, so you must (literally must) respect their decisions or move on.

I'm a vegetarian and I feel the same way when my favorite places take my favorite things off the menu. Most of us do mind our own business...talk to the owner of the establishment...find out why he caved.

By not leaving a tip you only hurt the waiter/waitress. Neither the cook nor the manager/owner lost a thing. Waitpersons are
paid so little, yet they need it for college or just to survive. Next
time don't vent your frustration on an innocent party.

i can understand what youre saying, but as a vegetarian myself you have NO idea the crap we get from meat eaters! the "do you only eat lettuce" ohh "why dont you just order the chicken?" If anything, meat eaters are a lot pushier in getting us to eat their food then vegetarians are. I never push my diet on others, thats a personal choice, and im sorry its off the menu, but atleast you can still order it, so thats a good thing!

I doubt if this will answer your query, however. I was raised in a farming comunintiy.still live there. In my 49 years of ongoing
adventure, i have done some personel research. In the five comunities surrounding Lewiston ID, I was curious, what the
average life span was. using farmers, city dwellers, and urban dwellers. Farmers live a longer span , 80 years as a average, this is out of a data base of 10,000 and five year, span. urban 77 years, city 74 years. I will use my father as example. he is 84 years old walks between 4 @5 miles a day. also his diet.has not changed in his lifetime. still eats, steak, pork, potatoes, plently of gravy, the usual fare. still has a garden in his back yard .And raises his own veggies and fruit.
on a personal note his rasberries are to die for.I have seen that vegans are not a genarally a healthy bunch. I am aware of their, propoganda. but it doesn,t seem to pan out in the long run as a healthy life style. exercise and a well rounded
diet will generally lead to a longer life. But what do I know.
I am just an old country boy. My suggestion don't go to that resturaunt. They will eventually run them selves out of business.

You are horrified over something that was not on the menu, but you were resourceful enough to still get what you wanted. I commend you on getting your way. But then to not take into account other people's views of eating, goes against your intelligence.
