I'm trying to eat healthier, and I thought drinking soy milk instead of regular would be better because it doesn't contain hormones. Does it taste like cow's milk? Is it pricier? It comes fortified with calcium, doesn't it? Thanks!

Yes, it does come fortified with calcium. It tastes similar to skim milk. They do sell it flavored as well (vanilla and chocolate are the ones I know of). It is pricer than regular cow's milk, but you can buy it on the shelf, boxed and canned, and it costs a bit less than the cartons and jugs you find in the refridgerated dairy sections.

Where I live, the cost is about equal to that of cow's milk. You want to get really healthy, opt for unsweetened soy milk. The only problem, it taste like chaulky bitter crap. I use it on cereal, especially sugary cereals, as you really don't need the added sweetness. Just to drink straight, a regular soymilk is much better, I'm still not a huge fan of the taste though, of course even in regular soy milk, the taste varies from brand to brand. Very trial and error. I find Silk to be one of the better ones. The flavored soy milk is preferable for drinking straight out of the glass(think vanilla, chocolate, etc), but usually has a lot of added sugar, not the best for you in the long run.
And yes, most of the soy milk you'll come across is fortified, just read labels to be sure.
Also try rice milks and almond milks too, which also can be fortified, and you might perfer the flavor more-- like I said though, it'll be very trial and error for a while.

How Does Soy Milk Taste

It tastes just like skim milk. There are many different brands that you can try and they all taste a little bit different. On top of that, there are different flavors such as vanilla, original, and chocolate as well as an organic option. Another very healthy alternative to cows milk is Rice milk. It sounds quite strange but its not and also comes in different brands and flavors. I recommed Silk, Soy Dream, or Rice Dream. I have also heard that Almond milk is quite good. You can find all of these fortified with calcium and the prices vary a lot by store. If you purchase them from the shelves rather than from the refridgerated section they are usually cheaper and come in larger quantitites.

Depends on the kind you get. I like the Vanilla and Very Vanilla by Silk. It has a much lighter consistency(maybe a little thicker than skim milk) than regular milk. It doesn't have a strong taste, but I will say that its probably somewhat an acquired taste. It doesn't taste anything like regular milk to me. I would try a flavored soy milk first, I know that they come in many flavors such as chocolate, vanilla, banana, strawberry, and so on.

In my area soy milk is cheaper in price then cow's milk and lasts much longer..months..many people like 8th continent , silk ,or almond breeze..the key is to but small size quarts and see, but go with the known brands..they also make a chocolate soy milk..my son Loves the almond breeze chocolate soy..not found in the refrigerated isle..comes in cardboard type container ..and you can store before opening in closet..It will take some trial and error but you will find one or more you like..

Depends on which kind. There are many kinds and vary in taste. The plain (unsweetened kind) is not something most western people would like. The common one western people like is the vanilla flavored ones like Silk Vanilla. The refrigerated Silk Vanilla is like a thin vanilla milkshake. The one on the shelf (non-refrigerated at the store) is more plain even though they are both Silk Vanilla. You can get chocolate, very vanilla, and others.

There's also rice and almond milk, and probably others too.

The nice thing is you don't get the feeling of fat sitting in your mouth, since cow milk is fat suspended in water.

Try it and you'll find out! And yes it does cost more and I think that it does not contain any added vitamins or minerals nor does it taste like cow milk.
