Most of what we get is pretty boring , just a recycling of the same ingredients. But then you discover the culinary treasure that is a great mole` and all sins are immediatley forgiven.
There is a hotel & restaurant in the town of San Blas Mexico located on the Pacific, that is run by a chef that was classically trained in France and applied that sensibility to her native cuisine -Phenominal .

What you are eating is not Mexican food but Americanized Mexican food. Go South of the border, way down to the countryside, and try some real Mexican food. It's much better.

I used to hate Mexican food until I went to Mexico (Oaxaca, to be exact). The food was amazing and not at all like the swill you get in much of the US. It was fresh and delicious, with nary a refried bean or burrito to be found. I promise you that if you go to Oaxaca, you'll come back loving Mexican food.

You must not have a good understanding of true mexican food. It isn't all burritos tacos, etc. There are many "sundaysit down dinners". My favorite dinner is a flat steak cooked properly. There are many chicken and beef dinners. Most restaurants serve american version. What you are saying is no different than someone going to mcdonald's, burger king and wendy's in their country and saying all americans eat is burgers! really no difference.

I love it.. I don't eat refried beans. I eat whole beans small amounts of rice, chicken taco's.. using warmed corn tortillas. I don't eat flour tortilla's.. We use cilantro, onions, tomato's, small amounts of cheese. .What is a slow death is consuming too much of anything. Meat Loaf, Hamburgers, Steaks, bacon.. I don't despise Mexican food.. matter of fact. .some of it(like we eat) is healthier for you.. I'm Irish.. and I seldom eat corn beef.. that is a fast death..

You should always respect the food & culture of others despite your personal opinions, beliefs, preferences or practices.

Have you ever had a good Pueblan mole? It is the exact opposite of fast food: probably one of the most complex & complicated dishes (sauces) in the culinary world!

PS: even though the cooks/owners may be Mexican, they are still making it "Americanized" just for you. What they cook and eat for themselves is much more authentic. When I make Indian food for
non-Indians, I tone down the spices ALOT. When I make the same dishes for Indians, I make it even more spicier and even keep extra spicy condiments/pickles/sauces on the side. (I think some Indians basically have no taste buds left after years & years of eating spicy foods!)

God, no, i love it! And if you are saying "a slow death" as in it's unhealthy, you are very wrong. Beans alone are one of the healthiest foods you can eat. Maybe you're thinking of tex-mex fast food, like Taco Bell? That's definitely a slow death, but it's also not real mexican.

No, I don't.

One thing... you're probably eating the Americanized versions of these dishes. I don't know a lot of Mexicans who dump huge quantities of melted processed cheese product in their dishes.
