The chances of having another one is increased if risk factors are not controlled, which are as under:

Risk factors are conditions or habits that make a person more likely to develop a disease. They can also increase the chances that an existing disease will get worse. Important risk factors for heart disease that you can do something about are:

* High blood pressure
* High blood cholesterol
* Diabetes
* Smoking
* Being overweight
* Being physically inactive
* Having a family history of early heart disease
* Age (55 or older for women)

According to my regular physician and my wife's cardiologists, the chances are significantly greater of having a second heart attack if you have already had one. The chances of a second attack can be reduced by the obvious. Cholesterol reduction (LDL), blood pressure reduction, and exercise increase can reduce the chances of the second one happening. If you are diabetic, get the blood sugar under control.

All this said, this should obviously be done under the supervision of doctors. Good luck.
