My FIL will be 60 in May and we are throwing a party on his honor, We decided to have it catered and instead of having a traditional even, we would like to make a gag party.

Any ideas welcome

A gag party is a funny party in which in which you give silly gifts (depends, novelty store gifts, etc) and do silly things.

Instead of a Stripper popping out of the cake, its an IRS Tax Auditor with folders full of paperwork for the father in law to read!
Hand out gift bags with mini magic tricks, pepper gum, blue gum, hand buzzers etc.
Take a few popular quotes, cut them up into sentences and mix them up. Give each person a sentence. They will have to find the other people at the party with pieces of the same quote. Offer a ridiculously fabulous prize for the winning team. If it is a one sentence quote, break it down into words.

If you are looking for a theme, what about having someone draw up some head stones out of card board paper and have them all around the room, then maybe make up a grim reeper, and just have everything black and morbid, have everyone dress in black, black balloons, you get the idea.

Also, if you have a comedy store around your area they are
always great for gag gift ideas. I like the fake lottery tickets they always get a good laugh. I also like the ice cubes that have a fake fly in it. There are so many great ideas. Have a great time!

Since 60 is getting up in age ( I know what that means), throw him a silly children's party. It would be his last chance to have a second childhood. I'm sure you can think of some childhood games that you could tweak a little, for a more adult feel. I can think of different twists to pin the tail on the donkey....I'll leave that to your imagination. Go to http://www.evite.com/app/party/ideas.do to look at ideas for children's parties.

Have a graffiti party. Have people wear white shirts and go around writing on each other. Make sure if you use permanent marker you wear two shirts because sometimes the marker bleeds if people are sweaty. (School markers are really better but there is always the person who wants to write in sharpie.)

Gag as in practical jokes?

I recommend a murder mystery party. You have no idea how fun they are until you have one.
