Oral herpes (cold sores) is the Herpes Simplex Virus-1 and is contagious through kissing and other means. It's not considered an STD. If you catch it, you will most likely develop your own cold sore. These cold sores can occur on any part of your body but rarely do. The best protection against contracting it is to stay away from your girl when she's having an outbreak. You will have this virus forever if you do contract it.
Genital Herpes are caused by either type of the herpes virus (simplex 1 or 2). It is contagious via sex, thus it's an STD. It is also contagious through any touching (hand jobs, oral sex, etc) of infected tissue and can also appear on other parts of the body. If you kiss someone who has genital herpes but there is no virus present on either of your lips, you will not contract it.

There are two types of herpes simplex virus: HSV-1 and HSV-2. Both virus types can cause sores around the mouth (herpes labialis) and on the genitals (genital herpes). Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV).
Cold sores sometimes called fever blisters, are groups of small blisters on the lip and around the mouth. The skin around the blisters is often red, swollen, and sore. The blisters may break open, leak a clear fluid, and then scab over after a few days. They usually heal in several days to 2 weeks.
The herpes simplex virus usually enters the body through a break in the skin around or inside the mouth. It is usually spread when a person touches a cold sore or touches infected fluid—such as from sharing eating utensils or razors, kissing an infected person, or touching that person's saliva. A parent who has a cold sore often spreads the infection to his or her child in this way. Cold sores can also be spread to other areas of the body.

I got clinically diagnosed with the herpes simplex virus (type 2) about six years ago, when I was still attending college and had a stupid one-night stand. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone that has sores around her you-know-what? But since a friend shared this video everything changed https://tr.im/HerpesCure2015QjmC
Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the hsv from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to begin dating once more. I even met the man of my dreams. This method provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience real love. Now I want to enable you too by sharing this with the whole World.

People are really misinformed about Herpes. Oral herpes is just as contagious as gential herpes. And oral herpes can become genital herpes if it is spread from mouth to genitals from oral sex. Oral herpes is the type of herpes that is more likely to spread to other parts of the body, for example the eyes and fingers.

There are two different kinds of herpes: one is "downstairs" and one is "upstairs". I doubt you can get the STD kind from kissing, but I know you can catch it even if you use a condom, so be safe!
And yes, you can catch "upstairs" herpes from kissing. Someone gave it to my son when he was 7 months old just from a peck on his mouth and its been a nightmare ever since. The first breakout he had was everywhere on the inside and outside of his mouth. It was also on the thumb he sucks, so I know the cold sore herpes can get anwhere. So, I never use a washcloth that's been used to wash his face to wash ANYWHERE else on his body.
I'll tell you what I tell myself: why chance it?
