I think so. I use to get them all the time and I know that there not fun. They do have over the counter meds that you can take when you do have a UTI. Otherwise if you feel that one is coming on drink alot of regualr cranberry juice.
Here are some other tips...
pee after your done having sex
dont wear alot of cotton thongs
make sure if a guy is going to do oral things to you make sure that his hands are clean.
good luck

I don't know about meds -- bacterial infections happen because bacteria gets where it doesn't belong (in the urinary tract), not because you drank coca cola or didn't eat enough yogurt. Yogurt (acidophilus) does help with yeast infections. I'm a total pepsiholic and I never once have had a UTI and I'm 50. Hygiene is a much more common cause. And sex, but again good hygiene can help because if the bacteria isn't around it can't get pushed up against the urinary tract. Peeing after sex helps prevent an infection from taking hold because it washes out what may have gotten pushed in before it has a chance to take hold.
However. Cranberry juice does help, and I know the scientific reason why I just can't think of it right now. Lots of fluid to keep the urine moving helps. I'm sure the sugar in cola drinks and other sweets doesn't help.
Also critically important is to always wipe from front to back, keep clean and if you are sexually active make sure your partner likes showering too :)
I'm sure the other tips here have some merit, I was just surprised nobody mentioned hygiene. That's the most important part of the equation.

The most common cause of a UTI developing in a female is from drinking products with carbonated water......like Coke. I agree with your other answer about drinking cranberry juice, as that never hurts. But if you drink a lot of soda, then you're going to constantly develop UTIs. It's more prevalent in females than males. So if you do this......you just may want to limit your carbonated drinks.....I'm sure it'll improve quickly. Best of luck to you.

Uva Ursi is a fabulous herb for clearing the body of UTI's. Pick it up a your local health food store. You should see an improvement within two days. Only take the recommended dose on the bottle for seven days. After that it may become hard on your kidneys, but seven days is ok.
