no you are not wrong...a cold sore is a type of herpes that is contagious...not like the std mind you. But if this continues, he could end up with a cold sore or worse! However, it is his choice. Maybe he's trying to make you feel better about it? Talk to him.

cold sores are usually caused by a virus called herpes simplex type I. Most people are already infected with this virus. Do not confuse this with genital herpes as that is type II. They are two different viruses. As I said most people have this virus already. It lays dormant in their body until things like stress, biting your lip, etc. brings out the cold sore. Abreva and other such things can be used on the sores to help with pain if there is any involved. Hope this was helpful. TJ

I'm a family med doc. Certainly do not kiss on the mouth or elsewhere else if you have an open cold sore (Herpes labialis). The infection is transmissable. Once the lesion scabs over it is no longer infectious. .

No you're not. If he doesn't respect the fact that you don't want to give him herpes...then he's not a good boyfriend...and not very sensible. Cold sores are a herpes virus, and if he kisses you, then goes down on you, or vise versa...well... you know.

You need to remind your boyfriend that cold sores are herpes and that he cannot kis you when you have one or he risks getting herpes. Perhaps you should print out the literature off the web about the seriousness of herpes and show it to him.

No. You can give him genital herpes too if you went downtown right now. Tell him to back off for his own good.
