A drug is supposed to make you feel better and treat a condition, and the bad side effects were not foreseeable after the mandatory testing. A drug is prescribed by a physician who is trained to identify diseases and prescribe drugs to cure them.More or less, the patient is not given a choice if he/she takes the drug- they need to take it to maintain the quality of their life and have a relatively normal life.
On the other hand, the side effects of cigarettes are known. You know you can get addicted and get cancer. If you buy them, it is completely your choice. A stupid choice, but still your choice. The government should not protect you protect people against their own stupidity- a mature adult should be able to make a reasonable decision. That is why there is a minimum age requirement.
If you still decide to smoke and destroy your body, I don't see why somebody shouldn't be able to make profit out of your ignorance.

That is the difference between the medicines and tobacco- the choice

This is precisely why I stay OUT of the doctor's office unless absolutely necessary!! (Haven't been in 8 years except for a kidney infection and pink eye 2 weeks before my wedding!) It feels like whenever you go, you are just a guinea pig for all the "latest" drugs and studies. I don't understand many things about the medical profession - why any woman would choose to have a baby in the hospital... why people won't try alternative therapies - they just rely on medicine to patch up their problems. It's quackery. (Just my humble opinion!)
