Vindaloo is very spicy, but there are some Sri Lankan and Thai curries that will blow your head off as well.
For Indians, Madras curry is not considered very spicy. Try Andhra cuisine (South Indian), that's crazy hot!
This is something that the chef/cook controls: more
chili powder & fresh chilies = more spicy.
Although, anything made with habaneros & scotch bonnets is lethal spicy (even an omelette).

I would hesitate to enter a curry in the 'Hottest 'contest, there are hot curries & not so hot curries in all countries, the same curry would vary in hotness with the amount of chillie used.I alwayss listed India with it's Andhra cuisine, West coast Goan Vibdaloo & Tamil Nadu (Madras) as the hottest, until I visited ceylon & Thailand,i then included them as far ahead in the race for hottest curries.

There is an "Indian" curry served in Britain called a Phal, it is far, far hotter than anything a respectable Indian would serve in India, and was created, so I am reliably informed, to satisfy the British soldiers who insisted on something "hotter" after they had consumed a good deal of beer.
To quote Camellia Panjabi:
"In fact, some of the hottest new curries have been created for English taste by cooks in U.K.! For example the Phal. A Mutton Phal or a Chicken Phal is so hot that you and I can't eat it. But the British enjoy it."

Vindaloo is as hot as Madras. The last time I was in Adelaide I went to a restaurant, I think it was in Hindmarsh Square in the cellar of a building. They served a curry that they named Tinderloo, claiming it to be as hot as you will ever get. They offer a free beer to anyone having it but dont be fooled by that, the beer makes it feel hotter, I stuck to red wine and thoroughly enjoyed it.
