Cool, good decision! You're doing yourself and the planet a favour. Show your parents these websites if they ask why, and they might just decide to become vegetarian too:

Sweetie, you need your parents support and guidance in this. Since they don't know, I am thinking you don't communicate real well with them. Try ASKING for their HELP with this. Tell your parents that meat doesn't taste good-don't use the word vegetarian. Just say that meat is bothering you, and can they help you find a substitute. Each time you eat meat, say that it just does not taste good to you, then maybe you can take it from there. I wish I could help more, but too often I hear of kids saying they want to be a VEGETARIAN, and often, just the word alone freaks parents out. Hope this helps. My 12 year old is a veggie, and I support her 100 percent. Email us if you like

Well, it shouldn't be a big deal (well, maybe if they're cattle ranchers or something). Just think about your reasons for becoming vegetarian and explain it to them on those terms. I am assuming that since they do not already know, you are not a minor or living at home, so you don't need them to comply or alter their food preparation...at least not on a nightly basis.

If you suspect they will be concerned about your health, come properly armed with information about vegetarianism and nutrition.

The choices for your life can be decided by you, but not that for lives of others, even if it means your parents.
You can at the most begin with telling them the benefits of vegetarianism, but donot expect them to change over in an instant, or rather change at all. If they find it suitable or nice to switch over to being veg, they shud decide for themselves.
But in no case should this be imposed on them, or they be made to feel that non-vegetarian diet is something bad that they are ingesting.

Does your family ever eat meals together?
If so, then they'll find out soon enough. If not, then that's a shame, (and another topic), and you may actually HAVE to tell them if you want them to KNOW, (not "no"). If you expect them to react negatively, then you have to build your case by explaining to them how you plan to maintain normal levels of nutrition re: protein and other nutrients. Be prepared to explain the "advantages" of a vegetarian diet. As long as you appear to "know your stuff" re: you'll appear to have made an informed, mature decision toward a vegetarian lifestyle as opposed to blindly following a "fad".

you have made a such an important decision so it means you are grown up enough to decide for your self( ı dont know your physical age)So most probably they will understand but you know them better . if you think they will be angry and try to change your mind then first tell them first you will try then you will decide. it will give sometime to them to watch you and see that you are happy with it by this time keep giving them written info about vegetarian diet nourishment...etc. so they will not be shocked and they will be comfortable. when you will have a baby you will understand them better. they want the best for you so you have to make them understand that this is best for you. best of your luck if you were my child ı would be proud of you.

its ok if you want to decide to be a vegeterian or anything else and the possitive side of it is: all the vegetarian foods are healthy! so your parents should agree with you cos you are eating healthy foods so thats a great option!

Just go up to them and say "Mum, Dad' I've decided to become a vegeterian. It's my decision and I would like it if you both supported me"
Just make sure you keep your commitment. Its pretty hard to switch to vegeterian since you've grown up eating meat n all.

It's spelled "know". Maybe if you ate some meat your brain would function clearly and U could learn to spell.

Don't act like it's some big deal, they'll actually love you for saving them money.

Congrats on your evolution. =)

Just tell your parents that this is what you want and tell them why you've decided to do this. They will and should respect your decision. :)

Good luck on your journey!
