and I was wondering if playing spin the bottle would be a good activity for the event (so that it doesn't get dull) along with my original plan of hiring a couple strippers and a bringing in a few bottles of cheap champagne? I think everyone would like to see our fellow employee go out and style and really would like an outsider's opinion on what would be good for the event?

You didn't happen to mention where you and your co-worker were employed, but I'm assuming that its for a construction company or a carnival! I'm thinking that you're trying to plan a bachelor party as opposed to a retirement gig. I'm sure your co-worker will appreciate pictures of him 10 years down the road getting a lap dance while spinning the bottle. How about some decorum? I think a good natured employee roast is perfect. Good food, adequate drink, and some tasteful decorations make for a good party.

Maybe one stripper, and anyone who spun the bottle too much has to be in the line of the one who opens it (as long as it's a bottle of champagne). Just remember, someone who is retiring might not even remember all the rules of spin the bottle (heck, I don't, and I'm only 52, but I remember the highlights!), but it might be kind of fun to make up new rules as you go along. Also, you might want to include giving the retiree a fake gold watch--just because....

Strippers are certainly NOT classy and would not be appreciated at 99% of the retirement parties I have attended but then I do not know your situation, location or the person retiring. Only MY opinion that strippers are tacky tacky tacky!

Not even sure what the hell "spin the bottle" really is... ha ha

Just be sure to have a centerpiece arrangement made up of "Bengay", "Senior vitamins", "hemorrhoid cream" and anything having to do with getting older. These centerpieces are always a hit for anyone with a sense of humor.

Have fun !!

i think not about the strippers as your company must have a code of decorum, just spin the bottle so everyone can take turns roasting the celebrant and i believe the canteen might be a great venue specially if they also lend a hand in making the event truly splendid otherwise any other place would do as well
