A girl in my school is constantly getting cold sores. She is very agressive and constantly takes sips out of drinks without asking, takes bites out of my food, etc. It's easy for me to just not drink or eat what she's had her mouth on, but what really concerns me is that she uses my lip gloss when I'm not looking, and I'm afraid of catching it when she doesn't have an outbreak. She won't do this if she has a fresh sore, but when she feels them coming on or just drying up, she'll use it. What are the chances of my picking up the herpes if she uses my lip gloss when she doesn't have an outbreak? Also, what can I tell her to keep from using my things without offending her?

This girl is a recent arrival from Poland...she doesn't really understand many of the excuses I come up with. She just invades my purse randomly when I'm not paying attention. I always clean off what she's used with alcohol if it's a squeeze-tube. If it's a dipped wand, I'll never use it again. Quite annoying.

Most likely you have had HSV1 since you were a small child.
90% of the worlds population has this virus. Only about 10% of those actually get a cold sore from it
It is most commonly contracted in infancy from different people kissing you.

Simple... Tell her straight out that you do not like sharing personal items as lip gloss, no matter who it is. If its not hers she shouldn't be touching it without your okay. As far as catching them, I've had cold sores for years and through research found it is basically transfered from skin to skin contact (even if she's not showing it is rare but possible to pass to another person). I've had an old roomate that used to go in my room and use my lipstick / lip gloss / chapstick or whatever and never got them. Personally I think she was out of her mind, why would any one even want to take that chance... THEY HURT. Even if i get an itch on my lips I won't even kiss my husband till I know for sure it was only an itch or if i had one that it is completely gone.

Yes, if she's got Herpes you can catch it even if she doesn't have an apparent sore at the time.
Your lip gloss should be kept in your pocket or purse. Tell her that your purse is your personal space, please don't invade.
And if she asks if she can borrow your lip gloss, tell her thats how communicable diseases are spread. You don't have to mention Herpes, let her think you're talking about a cold or something.

At this point, I'd not give a damn about offending her. I'd knock her poxy *** upside the head and tell her to leave my crap alone so I don't get her affliction.
