I went to the dr. because I was very fatigued. He used to have me on high bp medicine Toprol because of elevated bp on a few different occasions. I had to stop taking the medication a little over a week ago because bp had dropped down to 90/50's - 117/60 and pulse had slowed down. Today he checked my pulse and said it was weak, but bp and pulse rate were ok. He just told me to drink lots of liquids and let the toprol work it's way out of my system. My question is what causes a weak pulse but a normal pulse rate? I have been of the toprol for over a week, would the medication still be in my system causing this? He wants to come back in a couple of weeks, but i am concerned now! Anybody have any ideas?

A weak pulse but a good pulse rate is simply your heart is pumping like it should that is what causes the pulse rate. But because of the bp meds helped the density in your blood which could cause a weaker pulse. I weak pulse does not always mean there is something wrong. Some people just have a weak pulse and vice/versa

It doesn't matter whether your pulse is weak or not. Your blood pressure is normal and your heart rate is normal. When sitting quietly, it is often hard to find your pulse. With exercise or activity, your pulse is often bounding.

Doctors sometimes feel the pulse in the wrist as a quick estimate of the blood pressure. A "weak pulse" can correlate with low blood pressure. But if he actually took your blood pressure and it was okay, then that would be a more reliable measure of blood pressure than just feeling your pulse. That is probably why he doesn't need you to come back sooner.

i've been prescribed by that medicine before, it took me a year to realized, that i don't need it, doctors always rely on medicine, that's all they mostly do. you complain on something they'll give you something from the book. then you'll worry the rest of your life, taking the medication, monitoring the reaction all the rest of your life. i made a choice to stop it, i realized that i should be responsible for what i eat. high high BP only means you lack of proper sleep maybe due to parties or worries, you eat a lots of salty foods like chips or anything flavorful. you are having a stress like you aren't comfortable on what's going in your life. once your mind and body adjusted from your stress and make you relax, you'll feel the difference. and you don't have to worry to be stucked up to the medication which the doctor will tell you that once you start you cannot stop.

Sometime when you take someone's pulse its very strong and sometimes its very weak. Its not any indication that something is wrong. Drink lots of fluids and you should be fine.
