How do you feel generally? Could you have perhaps pulled a muscle? Do you smoke - if so, have you smoked a few too many? I have had pains in my chest, lungs, heart - all sorts and there is never anything actually wrong - everyone just gets aches and pains. However, the doctor should have been more reassuring - some just can't be bothered it seems - that attitude winds me right up. If it still hurts in a couple of days, go back for a second opinion. Problem is, to be sure you need a chest Xray and they just don't want to pay the money the NHS - quite what we pay our taxes for I really am no longer sure!

Hello,

(ANS) If your lungs are hurting it could be that:-

a) you have a broken rib but that would be quite specific to one area or side of the rib cage? but extremely painful each time you breath.

b) you have a pulled intercostal muscle, that would certainly be very painful but not life threatening though.

c) You have undertaken some kind of lifting or stretching exercises that have stretched the rib cage & the muscles covering the ribs & that would give you pain for sure.

**In any case there is nothing you can do but to rest the body itself and perhaps take normal pain killers to help ease the pain until it heals up of its own accord.

If you are not satisfied change your doctor, and have yourself reviewed from another consultant.
If necessary change hospital and doctor both.
