Unfortunately Herpes is a very strong virus, it is possible to be passed by casual contact such as kissing, or other activities which expose you to body fluids (saliva, mucus, or of course the obvious, blood.)

However, it is unlikely that you would receive it this way unless your friend has an active infection with blisters in their mouth or lips.

Even if you don't think your friend has Herpes, it is a good idea to keep your lips on your own property! = )

no but you can get a different type of herpes. Herpes simplex 2 or 1 about most people have it but we call them fever blisters. now it one kisses or gives oral sex while you have open sores then you can transfer the virus over to what ever area

If your friend has a "cold sore" open or not (unfortunatly most think that the sore has to be open... this is not true, it can be passed through an unopened one as well) , if it isn't healled it can be passed to you like that. However if there is no sores at all then you should be ok.... but just to be safe avoid drinking anyones drink or eating their food, drink and eat your own!
