Vegan, and looking for a substitute for chocolate, since I'm allergic to cocoa... Any sensible ideas are appreciated.

Definitely agree with the other user--Carob is a great sub. Check your local Trader Joe's or Whole Foods market--they'll have tons of ideas!!

Sorry you're allergic to cocoa!! :(

Carob flour is similar to cocoa it is more expensive but will kind of give you a 'chocolate' flavour in cakes. You can buy solid carob also, but check to see if it is made with soy milk.

Real dark chocolate doesn't have milk in it; so just look for a good brand of dark chocolate with 70% or more of cocoa butter (It's called butter but there's no butter in it) and you should be set.
