From many years of taking care of stroke patients I would have to say no. The events leading up to a stroke such as headache may sometimes be but the stroke itself is not. the person is usually not even aware of that side affected by the stroke and may not wash or dress it until long after rehab but experiences no pain.

I've never noticed a person to be in physical pain, emotional pain, YES YES!!! It can be very disturbing for people, and many cry if that part of their brain was affected, or if they are really upset over the stroke.

Depends. Hemmoragic strokes which are bleeds tend to cause extreme headaches. The ischemic strokes are the ones that tend to be numbing and not as pain full but emotionally it is as pain full as ever.

As Brain Substance is devoid of pain receptors, there is absolutely no pain felt in the brain.
Psychologically it's a painful experience for patients and families and friends too.
