To be honest, my time in spain (2 weeks barcelona and surrounding areas) was a nightmare because i'm a vegatarian.
It is the worst place i have ever travelled as a vego, out of about 28 countries...
I was going crazy. I was on a constant search for a decent meal.
Maybe it won't be so bad for you. I think it would have been better if i was not on a budget, liked eggs and liked pre-made sandwiches.
If you can afford to go to restraunts everyday and you like eggs and sandwiches you might be fine! And maybe the food will be different where you go as well.
The 2 things i cannot stand to eat are eggs and pre-made sandwiches - the soggy bread makes me retch. Thats pretty much the only "street food" we ever found there which didn't have meat - egg sandwhichs. (tortilla boccadilos i think they were called)
Pretty much the only other thing you can eat easily and cheaply is patatas bravas (like chips with spicy mayo - i don't like mayo, its eggy!) and fries.
And you can't live on just potatoes for long...
We did find a falafel place - i think it was called "pita oven" or something on las ramblas Barcelona one day. That was good.
We pretty much lived on fries as snacks, we bought nuts, yoghurt, fruit, bread and juice from supermarkets.
But you need a "proper meal" at least once a day... at the lack of that daily "proper" meal was driving my crazy. I never felt satisfied and was always looking for dinner...
The best thing we found for a "proper" meal that was affordable was (shame) Pizza hut. We went to pizza hut for dinner when ever we could find one. It was good because you can ask for the toppings you want.
Self catering was not an option. we stayed in hostels but only 1 of the 5 or 6 places we stayed had any sort of cooking facilities, and that was only a microwave - no cookware.
The supermarkets were not so great for vegetarians either... they even put ham in their cans of lentils.... :( there we NO microwavable vegetarian meals.
I would reccomend you try and stay at a place with self catering as an option just incase you have as much trouble as i did, at least you will be able to buy some pasta and veggies and make some dinner!

Plenty. Spanish cuisine, like all Mediterranean cuisine, includes many vegetarian items. It's more friendly for vegetarians than American or British cuisine. Spain is a very modern liberal nation. There are hundreds of thousands of Spanish vegetarians.

Every restaruant in every country should ahve at least one vegy dish. If it comes to it, you can always find a local supermarket and buy vegy stuff.
It will be fine, dont worry about it until you are there. Holidays are for relaxing.
If they do not have vegy options, then simply ask for pasta without the meat (learn to say it is spanish!!!)
you will be fine, and besides, what are you going to do about it-cancel the hol????
have fun!
