Any rational person knows that the words contradict each other. We are "HUMANS, therefore we are not "ANIMALS". Although there are some amongst us who make very poor excuses for a human being, we are all none the less "Human Beings." What precisely do people mean when they refer to a "Human Animal?" I know plenty of humans, and not one of them is an animal. Some of us maybe ill mannered and behave like animals, but are none the less still human beings. I've heard about some fellow named Gary Francione who rants about the theory of animal rights and abolition, a cause that many vegans are dedicated to. Perhaps that is where this little catch phrase came from. I've tried to read some of what Mr. Francione has written, but could not stop laughing at what he had to say, and simply couldn't carry on with it. Do vegans think so little of themselves that they consider themselves to be "HUMAN ANIMALS?" I don't always agree with vegans, but I've never thought them to be animals

I am a vegetarian. However, I am not an animal.

Alright folks. I can see that once again I am the voice of reason within this forum. For those of you that believe you are an animal, by all means go to the zoo frequently to visit your family. You are overlooking the most obvious of things that sets humans apart from animals. Humans have souls. Animals do not. Don't any of you have faith in our Lord Jesus Christ? I suppose most of you believe in the "THEORY of EVOLUTION." What a shame.

It's always been apparent to me that most (not all) vegans are somewhat of a bore, certainly not the life of the party, and not much fun in general. I had never considered that they could perhaps be without a soul. Maybe it is not just the vitamin and mineral deficiencies so common amongst them that causes them to withdraw from the relm that most of us call reality. We may be onto something here.

And before any of you begin to rant, understand that I am in favor of animals being treated more humanely. I don' pretend to know what the answer is, but ethically, I believe that we have a responsibility to treat animals more humanely. But don't confuse that with the thinking that animals should have the same rights as humans, as that is not the case. Animals have the right to be treated humanely. However, they are not, and rightfully never will be afforded the same rights as humans. For someone to think that this will ever change is entirely unrealistic. And any efforts to achieve animals having equal rights may make some of you feel good, but it is a complete exercise in futility.

MATT How nice of you to speak for everyone. In as much as you appear to think you are all knowing, I suppose that gives you the authority to do so. And no Matt, I am not trying to turn this into a religious argument. Even if religion were not a part of the equation, simply applying common sense to this debate would enlighten you to the reality of the matter. I realize you are woefully deficient in this area, and in any situation that requires it you are in dire straights. As a vegan I know you are quite accustomed to dealing with deficiencies, but add one more to the list. And Matt, Christianity is not a myth. It has a lot to do with faith, something you appear to be lacking. I pray that some day you will find it, in spite of our differences. Throwing ones soul away, condemning yourself for an eternity, is the height of ignorance. While your saving all the animals perhaps you should give some thought to saving yourself.

MATT You are a fool. In one sentence you called Christians Racist, Homophobic, and Sexist. I know you don't like it when people stereotype vegans, but you feel free to take that liberty with regard to Christians. And you can call me homophobic if you would like, as I believe that lifestyle is sinful and perverted. However, unlike you, I tolerate such individuals and do not throw my ideals in there face. For instance, (hypothetically speaking, of course) assuming you are a homosexual, I would tolerate this and not make an issue of it. As far as I am concerned, what you do in the privacy of your bedroom with another man is your business, not mine. In as much as I tolerate this behaviour, I do not condone it. That does not qualify as homophobic. Nor am I a sexist or a racist as you have implied. God only knows what has happened in your life that has hardened your heart. It is truly sad. I hope that someday you find your way...

My goodness, you do bang on about it. Do you have anger issues? I consider anthing that has a central nervous system, a beating heart, blood, a brain, a digestive system, warm eyes, and the capability of giving birth to their young an animal. I am human, yes, but I share many of the same characteristics as an animal. Like you, I do not consider humans to be "animals", but I find it very animalistic and predatory to kill animals just to stuff your face. People are passionate about their "right" to eat meat. Knock yourself out dude! I, personally, find the concept of eating decaying animal flesh, full of disease, steroids, growth hormones, antibiotics, blood, pus, fecal matter, urine, uric acid, and Heaven knows what else repulsive. And yes, I sleep better at night knowing nothing had to bleed or die for me to satisfy my nutritional needs

define the word animal...a thing that can breathe, eat, reproduce, move, etc etc. Therefore, humans muct be animals.
However, i have never in my life heard anyone say 'human animal' nor do i understand why people assume that if you are like an animal then you are ill mannered.
ok i can see the whole eat like a pig thing...
if you are vegy, then why do you think that humans are so much more powerful than animals? what do you mean 'think so little of themselves' although i am not vegan, i consider animals to be natures finest creation, and see no reason to think that we are more powerful than them, just because we messed up the world with polltuiona nd we can make computers and speak the same language...not that i undersdtand you language...
what on EARTH are you ranting about???

Humans are mammals. All humans are classified as the species Homo Sapiens. Humans are animals scientifically. We eat, breed, die, just as all animals do. You are thinking the term "animal" in a totally different sense, meaning, perhaps barbaric.

Edit:
Is this a joke? People of all faiths and beliefs (veggie and meat eaters) know that humans are animals. Again, you are using the term animal as meaning uncivilized and soulless. As in : "That person is acting like and animal!" Completely different from categorizing species.

What are we then, if not animals? We are not ethereal, that is also against your religion, right? So, I ask you, what are we? You also can stop using the term "human" because that is scientific. So please, when you decide what we are you must also make up a term to name us.

You can still be religious and have an education. Please go to school.

You aren't serious, Please tell me this is a joke... What would Humans be if not Animals, we are not plants, we are not insects (which technically are animals too). Humans are not their own life form, are they? Your DNA is almost exactly the same as a chimpanzee. What differentiates you from the animal kingdom? As Charles Darwin said, paraphrasing slightly, the differences between Humans and Animals is surely a matter of degree, not kind.

In regards to you comments about Mr. Fancione, what precisely do you take issue with? I would be happy to discuss it with you, or pass it along to him to answer himself.

Edit: So that's were this is all coming from, it's a religious augment. Ok, well until you decide to accept science over myth I don't think many of us have anything to discuss with you. At least not in regards to these issues.

Also I love your " I don't pretend to know what the answer is" stuff, I know you don't, and you don't pretend to want to find it either. You have shown time and time again that you are happy in your state of ignorance.

Edit:

My assumption, and yes it was an assumption , is based on the fact that almost everyone else told you to do you biology homework. Seems to me people rather not bring religion into this issue. If they have a different opinion on the matter I hope they will speak up and let it be known. If not, I shall assume they agree. Applying common sense? How so? Humans are animals, that’s common sense. Apparently I’m deficient in common sense and you’re the one arguing humans are not animals. Your common sense is a warped one to be sure in this case. I have no interest in Christianity, myth or not, it’s still not fact and that for sure. I’ve been to my fair share of Church’s, and just like how Speciesism is not for me, neither is the raciest, sexist, homophobic, patriarchal attitudes that are rampant in Christianity and the Bible. I despise oppression in all forms, towards humans and animals alike.

Strange that you are posting this as a vegan question. Most everybody, yes, even non-vegan and non-vegetarians alike, know that humans are animals. Is this not something we learned in science back in school? Why are you in such denial?

Next time you go to the zoo, take a long deep look in a primate's eyes. It may help you understand.

I'm an animal, scientifically, cosmogically,
pretty much basically. It's one of the reasons
I take offense to other species being murdered.
They are all cousins.
