Yes, herpes is for life.

Herpes simplex virus is a group of viruses that cause cold sores (oral herpes), genital herpes, chickenpox, mono, and many other illnesses.

Herpes is a virus and there are currently no cures for viruses. Once a person contracts herpes they will have it the rest of their life. Symptoms of herpes can be treated with anti-viral medications but this does not cure a person of herpes, it only helps suppress the virus.

"Herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections are very common worldwide. HSV-1 describes the oral-facial herpes commonly known as 'cold sores', and HSV-2 describes genital herpes. Both HSV-1 and HSV-2 can cause infections around the face, mouth, and genitals. Herpes infections in infants and in people who have weak immune systems or herpes infections that affect the eyes are serious and potentially life-threatening."

Although there is no cure for herpes, treatments can relieve the symptoms. Medication can decrease the pain related to an outbreak and can shorten healing time. They can also decrease the total number of outbreaks. Drugs including Famvir, Zovirax, and Valtrex are among the medications used to treat the symptoms of herpes. Warm baths may relieve the pain associated with genital sores.

Yes. You have it for the rest of your life. Some people don't get any more outbreaks, some get loads, some are in the middle. It is a definate fact that it you have it for the rest of your life. It stays dormant in the base of your spinal cord. If you have it, you can still have asymptomatic outbreaks. Meaning that the virus is present at the skin surface, but there is no physical symptoms.

Yes, the herpes virus is permanent. Apparently it lives at the base of your spine. You can reduce or prevent attacks by taking vitamin E. Sorry - don't know anything else.
