The muscles around your airways tighten even more than usual, going into what is known as bronchospasm. The inner lining of the airways swell and become irritated. At the same time, your airways produce large amounts of mucus that make breathing even more difficult.

The airway tightening, swelling, and increase in mucus all combine to cause a number of symptoms. The symptoms of an asthma attack include:

-Severe wheezing, when breathing both in and out
-Coughing that won't seem to quit
-Severe chest tightness, pain, or pressure
-Feeling anxious or panicky
-Fast breathing or the feeling that you can't catch your breath
-Retractions, or tightening, of the muscles in between your ribs and in your chest
-Blue color, called cyanosis, in the lips and fingernails
-Pale, sweaty face

Asthma is an allergy and is triggered by something. The best non medication treatment for asthma is learning your triggers and avoiding them. Common triggers are smoke, dust, mold, mildew, plants, dust mites, pets and grass/weeds.

If you can not figure our your triggers, you may need to see an allergist and have allergy screening done. This may point out your triggers.

The National Asthma Prevention Program and the Expert Panel of Diagnosis and Management of Asthma both agree if you have to use a prescription inhaler such as albuterol more then two time per week, your asthma is NOT in control and you will need a prescription controller medication.

Controller medications are steroids (Asthmacort Asthmanex, Flovent, Pulmocort), Leukotriene modifier (Singulair, Aculade, Zyflo) or mast cell stabilizers (Cromolyn sodium, Intal, Tilade).

You may want to talk to your doctor about several strong controller medications and maybe Xolair shots.

If you want a proven, all-natural way to cure your asthma, without having to pay for useless medications with harmful side-effects, then this is the most important page you'll ever read.

Insufficient oxygen is able to reach the lungs due to bronchospasm. So you become short of breath & your body gasps for air. You feel anxious, your heart races & you turn pale, possibley begin showing signs of cyanosis(blue tinged lips, fingers, toes...) & in worst case scenarios you lose conciousness possibly even leading to death. However dont be alarmed as asthma is common & rarely leads to such seriousness but if you think you have it you must see a doctor as there are medications which help
