Its customary for people to have cake for their birthday, but not a rule.

Greeks and Romans baked sweet honey cakes, wheat flour, honey and sweet oils- for birthdays and as sacrifices at temples.
Germans in the Middle Ages used a sweetened bread dough in the shape of the baby Jesus in swaddling clothes. English people like to bake treasures into their cakes, where the person who gets the piece with the doll, coin, thimble, is lucky.
Birthday candles originally were placed on cakes to bring birthday wishes up to God. In ancient times, people prayed over the flames of an open fire. They believed that the smoke carried their thoughts up to the gods. Today, we believe, that if you blow out all your candles in one breath, your wish will come true.

If she is your maximum suitable pal, ofcourse she might desire to supply the 1st piece to you, on the grounds which you're close! :) you are able to not tell if she desires to have a romantic courting from a splash cake. If she is being flirty with you greater suitable than primary then in keeping with risk she is drawn to you romantically, so then you certainly will ought to come to a call in case you desire your courting that way or in case you in elementary terms desire to be maximum suitable acquaintances. in case you sense that she is being too flirty and making you uncomfortable then you certainly ought to talk approximately it and be open approximately it, on the grounds which you're maximum suitable acquaintances and maximum suitable acquaintances are trustworthy :)

this tradition isn't that old, actually. mostly western culture practices it. The "Happy birthday to you" song wasn't even popular until early 1990's.
But practically, when it is someone's birthday, we like to celebrate. What do we do when we celebrate? we eat. What tastes really good? sweets. What kind of sweet can feed alot of people? cake.
mmmmmmm cake...

why not? cake is muy bueno, you can share it and take it with you. freeze it re-gift it. eat it for breakfast. save it until you have more ice cream. the question is not "why at birthdays" but "why not at more holidays"!
