Pelvic Inflammatory Disease Overview
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is infection of a woman's reproductive organs. Infection spreads upward from the cervix to the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and surrounding structures.

Bacteria can infect the fallopian tubes and cause inflammation. When this happens, normal tissue can become scarred and block the normal passage of an egg. You may become infertile (unable to become pregnant). But if your tubes are partially blocked, an egg may implant outside the uterus and cause a dangerous condition called an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy can cause internal bleeding and even death. Scar tissue may also develop elsewhere in your abdomen and cause pelvic pain that can last for months or years.

The 2 most commonly involved bacteria that cause PID are those of the sexually transmitted diseases gonorrhea and chlamydia.
PID can cause a wide variety of symptoms. Some women can be very ill and have severe pain and fever. Others can have no obvious symptoms or even appear ill. Thus, PID is not always easy to diagnose. But it is important for you to seek medical attention if you have any risk factors for PID or symptoms of PID.
PID affects more than 1 million women in the United States per year. Nearly 250,000 women are hospitalized annually because of PID.
Sexually active women younger than 25 years are at greatest risk, although PID can occur at any age.

I would have to know more about you, your diet and other lifestyle details to answer more thoroughly.

But I'll take a stab at it.

It's no wonder you're frustrated at the diagnosis that seems to make no sense to you. Doctors themselves seem to be in a quandry about it. It's basically a catch-all diagnosis.

There may be mechanical (how your body is structured) reasons for your symptoms along with dietary/chemical reasons (the nutrients/chemicals you're exposed to or deficient in).

I don't know enough to say whether your menstrual irregularity is directly related to your pelvic pain. They may be things you need to research separately and together.

Avoid douching, it can force bacteria up into your reproductive tract. Pee when you need to. Improve your hygiene. Wipe front to back. Avoid getting bacteria on your genitals. No anal, then vaginal sex. Avoid sugar, reduce fruit juices and white carbohydrates of all kinds. Avoid/reduce alcohol. Increase your intake of antioxidants Vitamins A, C, E and Selenium to improve your immune system, as well as an omega-3 supplement. Drink enough water. Consider taking lactoferrin/probiotics. Consider taking a mult-enzyme on an empty stomach for inflammation. Consider taking echinacea capsules when you start to feel this coming on (strengthens immune system). If it's urinary-tract related, consider taking mannose. Consider milk thistle for liver support and detox. Look into whether you might have food allergies or sensitivities such as celiac disease. Get your thyroid and female hormones checked. Look into endometriosis.

Consider getting an MD with a more holistic/diet-based approach.

Good luck!

i jst got treated for pid and what happened was i let something go to long then got treated and well pid was still there after i got treated so if you got treated along time ago and not for pid then yes it is possible that you have pid. now i still have apain sometimes with intercourse but i was treated for the pid but i let it get so bad that i damaged my insides but if it is still unbearable at times then you need stronger antibiotics cause that happened to me so my doctor prescribed stronger meds so that my days would be bearable!! now get througly checked(the er did a good job with me gave me morphine the pain was so bad) if you dont get rid of it well enough it can cause sterility which i was afraid of cause it was so bad but now im 8 weeks pregnant so good luck
