Man, I hear you! I'm in the same boat. I can't take statins because they freeze up my muscles and make me hurt all over. I managed to lower my LDL by 33 points in one month and raise my HDL by 10 points. Triglycerides came down 45 points. In one month. My doctors are amazed, me too.

I have stopped eating lamb, pork and beef. I eat very little chicken and a little more fish. I eat lots of food high in fiber (celery, carrots, broccoli, cabbage, etc.) If I fry anything it is in olive oil.

I am not particularly fond of avocado but it is high in MUFAs (mono unsaturated fatty acids) which help your body make its own HDL. (good cholesterol) I am not particularly fond of fresh mushrooms either, but they supply my body with trace minerals that help it work better.

I no longer use lard or bacon grease when cooking (Lordy! How I miss bacon and ham!)

I now use olive oil and vinegar dressing or I spray on lemon juice when having a salad. You will be amazed at how many types of green there are for salads iceburg is not the only lettuce in town! Red, green and yellow bell peppers really dress up a salad.

Cantaloupe and watermelon help flush the body of toxins. It can be done!

I personally like this first site because it has a Nutrition 101 section you can visit. The Anti-inflammatory diet is a good diet in my opinion.

Good luck I hope this will help you, it sure as heck has helped me so far.

You undoubtedly have familiar hyperlipidemia and possibly metabolic syndrome.

Combine your current maximum dose Crestor with an adjunct of Niaspan and if still not to goal then consider adding Zetia as well. Take the Crestor at bedtime if you are not already. Take the others mentioned above during the day.

Check Hgb A1C to see if there is any evidence of low level diabetes. If there is even 'pre diabetes' then treatment with a 'glitizone' to overall reduce high levels of insulin would be helpful.

In your case adopting a low carb diet, multiple small meals, would be helpful. See the American Diabetic Association web site for help - even if you are not diabetic. Overall calories per day should be at 2000 or less.

If these measures are not helpful, I might recommend a referral to your local cardiologist for additional help.

Good luck.

Sounds like you're about to have a heart attack! Stress and genetics can cause cholestrol to be high. Walking in the sunshine an hour a day (lunch break) can help reduce your cholestrol.

I am not sure about your cholesterol. Has your doc tried putting you on some of the newer meds that absorb the cholesterol from the intestinal tract?

High triglycerides indicate a sugar problem. My husband's triglycerides were 1,115 about 3 years ago. Doc put him on Lipitor. Cholesterol went down to 128 and triglycerides down to 225.

Also there is a med called Tricor, specifically for triglycerides.

NEVER see the ADA'S site or listen to it. It is designed for money, not to help you. NEVER

Their diet is the WORST recommendation possible for a diabetic

If you are diabetic take your meduications and eat like a PALEOLITHIC MAN.

The ADA will destroy your health.

Anthony Colpo will help you.

did your doctor recommend increasing the dose of your crestor? i think your doctor may recommend reaching the highest dose of crestor. if not controlled, then he may add to that ezetamibe.
